Another one!I'm just jamming on this topic and seeing what happens as it develops (while simultaneously thinking about plot development in it's earliest stages)...as Ideas occur I'm trying to get them down on paper. This one, however, has been due for a while:
This is for my friend Jen Hom , who wanted her very own Jellybot
So it's not a portrait per-se, but I tried to get the gist of her in 'bot form. Of course I picked a color palette she probably wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole
(teal was already taken, Jen, sowwy!) HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Anyways, I'm having a ton of fun on these...I mean...I was up till 3am last night making sure this got done. Hope y'all are enjoying them too!
I've got a couple more character ideas in the queue before I have to figure out what next. Hopefully those will materialize soon!

Lol, I can't lie, but when I saw this I thought "Now she'll try and talk to someone, and they wont be able to understand her because it'll be super muted, so she'll have to pop off her helmet deal with a super loud "SQUELCH" and a "are you kidding me, how did you not understand me?" kind of comment/attitude." X) Anyway sorry random thought, there. ^^'

I have to ask, do the Jellies have flavor? I assume it's some kind of oxygenated gel that gets in the airways like in Evangelion so you can breathe while immersed in it...

Nice. Have you read Keepers of the Maser? Good inspiration for jelly-based robots. I guess they're more organisms but humans operate them as vehicles sort of.

Frezatto handed over the pen to another artist, he just writes the story now. So the quality dropped drastically in book 7. No offence to the new artist but his stuff looks like a cheap copy of Frezattos stuff. And besides, they take place before book 1 anyway so if you've read 1-6 you already now fairly well what's taken place anyway. The war between the dwarves and the humans etc.

1) Yay! I'm SO glad you like it
2) You always look like a cuttlefish.
3) The palette...hahahaha...couldn't help it. From the very first thought, I was like..."ooooOoo...it'll be purple and neon pink". It was only late in the painting when I was like "wait...doesn't Jen, like, HATE these colors?"
4) I love inking by hand. But nowadays...no. I gotta say. The speed and convenience of the Cintiq...it's just so...augh...I love it. And for these? I figure they're such a sci-fi/shiny idea that it would almost be weird to do them traditionally. I know I know...SO un-RISD.

HAHAH we're switching places. i used to only ink digitally-- but i'm getting attached to inking by hand. i just can't fake mistakes and imperfections on the computer. i guess we're each moving to where we belong lol

The jellybot-idea is indeed interesting(as I might've mentioned at some point but can't remember for sure, durr) and it's fun to see more of these. :3 I'm digging this octopus-like design you have for this one. I really like the color-scheme and how warm you made the image c:
