Description This is a chess set I made about a couple of years ago. It took me four months I think of planning experimenting and actually putting together. I want to thank my friend Lindsay ******* for helping me paint the wolves before the deadline. The wolf pieces were made with a plaster mold I had made. The finished piece was the bider (pawn). All other pieces had to have their head cut off and reassembled with fixed ears and muzzles to create the howling, ear folded, and bowing of the more important wolves, except the deltas (knights). I don't think I cut their heads off. There was no need to anyway. All I did for them was reshape their muzzle by making them bare their teeth and look fierce. As well as pulling back their ears. I even splashed blood on their muzzles to add to their fierce looks and make up for the fact they don't wear anything on their heads like the others in the back with them. However they do wear the gold cuffs.

As for the board I used a second plaster mold to create identical squares. Making for a total of 64 squares. Plus the 32 wolf pieces. I had to deal with making 96 clay pieces. And it still isn't completed.

Here is a list of things I want to do to complete this project.

1. Raise the pedestals of the back pieces, especially the alpha pairs (kings and queens). Level off the bottom of some of the pieces to make them completely flat and wobble proof.
2. Repaint the wolves. Add details to the characters using their opposites main color.
3. Tear apart the board, sand the squares to perfection, paint and grout again on a thinner wooden board. Go to the framing section of Michaels and customize a frame, stain and glaze the frame, give the board a glass cover and felt underneath and the board is done.

If you are wondering what I call the pieces and why then here you go

1. Alpha Male and Alpha Female - Heads of the pack
2. Betas - Strong and second in command. They often become new alphas should something happen but the rules are a little different in chess.
3. Deltas - A higher ranking wolf not well known but is more powerful than biders.
4. Gammas - Another higher ranking wolf not well known but is stronger than most biders.
5. Biders - Regular wolves in the pack. They run around biding their time and dreaming of higher positions in the pack. The biders that are sacrificed are often omegas who are usually teased and more likely to be kicked out of the pack if necessary. Should a bider cross the board it is given the choice to live its dream of the higher rank it prefers.

Glad you like it, and I don't mind if you make one. I'd love to see your interpretation if you do, but I must warn you it is very time consuming, even with the casting mold. Not to mention I hope to one day take this entire set and remodel it. I'll be keeping the same pieces, I just want to make each rank appear more varied. I have some ideas its just having to find the time, willingness, and materials too of course.

I'm afraid not. I had been so busy with all my other piece I kinda just put this one away and forgot about it. Its changed quite a bit since this pic but its still unfinished.

I must have. *drool* And yew even put blood and snarls on the knights! (is that spelled right? I haven't ever had to WRITE that version of "night" <.< I like how the rooks are bowing their heads, but I'm pretty sure that would make more sense to do on the bish..*no idea how to spell it* Bish-upz *there, okay? XD* It's still so amazingly wonderful! I wouldn't change a thing!

(but thats just in normal-chess-pieces terms. -_- It makes aLOT of sense in Pack terms. *sigh* I want it so bad. lol, nice with the pawns/biders thing XD awesome)

Thank you, they actually look different now. But they aren't ready for a new picture yet. One of these days I hope to get back to work on this project and finish it.

Wow! Amaxing chess set! I love how the knights have bloodied muzzles! Great work with keeping the pieces unique yet all the same size and form! I'd have problems with even making the ears on the same wolf the same size! That's why I'm a Photoshop freak, and people keep clay away from me! LOL!
