Hehe Weaviles are awesome. Unfortunately I don't, but you can sort of see how I whipstitch flat felt decorations onto the hat and how I make the 3D plush ornaments and attach those to the hat. If you're still having problems, feel free to PM my active account called hazardbaby and I can help you with any specific questions.

Just a quick question. How do you attach the ears to the hat? Like in 's ear tutorial or some other way?

nikkiswimmer In reply to AngelERenoir [2011-03-28 19:47:42 +0000 UTC]
I used a different, noobish way... I definitely recommend using clearkid's method because it will ensure durability in your hat!

Hey! This is a wonderful tutorial, and its really helping me to make my own Pikachu hat, as that's what I'm going to be for Halloween this year
I have a question. I finished making the actual hat, and I have your pattern for all the accessories. However, I wanted to JUST make the ears, and I'm trying to figure out if I should use the same dimensions you had for them or something a bit larger? I'm not sure how big to go for them xD

nikkiswimmer In reply to lanikins [2011-03-28 19:45:01 +0000 UTC]
Whatever works best... for me, the ears were about 7-9 inches long. I sometimes add a but of extra at the end just in case I somehow mess up. The unwanted parts all get tucked away on the inside, anyways. Always remember to add about a half inch of extra fabric around the entire pieces, because that's how much gets lost when you sew the pieces together and flip the ear inside-out to make a stuffing pocket.

can you put up a tutorial of the hat part and the ear part? thanks!~

Clearkid's tutorial of the hat is the best one available, and that's what I use to make the hat base. As for the ear, I already showed you how to make 3D plush ornaments, so all you really need to do is use your imagination and turn that square into a triangle for the ear...

wow i love the hat! you did a wonderful job ^^ I have a question. When you whipstiched the ends of your ears together after stuffing them when you tie the knot after and you cut the string what do you do about that little bit of string showing? Ive been looking all over on how to end whip stich but i cannot figure it out. >.<
π: 0 β©: 1
nikkiswimmer In reply to EmiliaVampira [2009-07-23 04:55:52 +0000 UTC]
Ahh! When you are done whipping the last bit three to four times over, stuff the threaded needle partially into the ear. Push the needle (without losing grip of it!!) all the way through to the other end till it's poking out. Very carefully without letting go of the needle, pull the pointed end of the needle so that the thread went all the way through the ear. Pulling rather tightly so that the tread is taught, take scissors and cut the thread rather close to the ear. This way, the excess thread on the end will sort of go back into the stuffed ear, and out of sight. If you don't get my weirdo directions, feel free to tell me and I'll draw you up a quick diagram in no time. (:
Thanks so much for trying this out, and happy stitching!

haha ok thank you so much.. i think i get it XD.. so when you done whip stitching and before you put the needle through the ear you dont make a knot or anything? it wont come undone on you? lol sorry for all of the questions >.<
π: 0 β©: 1
nikkiswimmer In reply to EmiliaVampira [2009-07-24 01:58:36 +0000 UTC]
If you whipstitch roughly the same place over and over 3-4 times in the place that you want to stop stitching, it's better than tying a knot. This technique is called "stitching in place." Then you can stick the needle through the item and cut the tread. (:
