Description In this Tutorial i will explain how you override the materials for models.
Before you ask anything make sure you did this correctly and you didn't skip a step.

Please note! The new material MUST have a new name or pathway! Otherwise SFM will get confused because there is two files with the same name and pathway!

Yes this will also work on models like the soldier, scout and any other model.
They will have a lot more material overrides though. But you do the same thing.

Is this Worth a Like, Comment and Maybe Even an Watcher Too?

Take Care Everyone!
Cheers Guys!

If you are using "$color" it won't work unless the model have a White base to begin with.

Secondly, which model are you trying to change skin on?

I have been doing everything correctly. How much do you have to include for the file path? The whole thing?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nikolad92 In reply to reidical1 [2016-10-21 16:55:21 +0000 UTC]

Everything after the "Materials" Folder

For example.
This is the whole pathway
"Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\tf\materials\models\player\soldier\(Skin name)"

You only need Β this part of the pathway
"models\player\soldier\(Skin name)"

How would you use another texture in it's place? For example, if the wooden handle and the actual metal paint job were 2 seperate textures, how would you use the wooden texture in the place of the metal/paint job texture?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nikolad92 In reply to Plushtrapped [2016-04-06 20:18:34 +0000 UTC]

I don't get what you are trying to tell me here.
Can you please specify what you really ment.

Plushtrapped In reply to Nikolad92 [2016-04-06 21:00:56 +0000 UTC]

If a model has 2 materials, for instance a white texture and black texture, how do I replace the white texture with the black texture?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nikolad92 In reply to Plushtrapped [2016-04-06 21:05:20 +0000 UTC]

I guess in that way you need to "re-skin" that.
Or if there is a model with 2 different skins. just change the skin.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plushtrapped In reply to Nikolad92 [2016-04-07 00:50:10 +0000 UTC]

No, no. For my case, there are no skins on the model.Β i.imgur.com/f63YUjv.png I want to replace the purple texture with the white.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nikolad92 In reply to Plushtrapped [2016-04-09 14:08:02 +0000 UTC]

In this case you need to reskin the model.

hey niko... newb question but i was using the coctailΒ dress femscoutΒ and wanted to add one of your custom dressed for her but i cant find the materials path...

Nikolad92 In reply to ThatTF2Guy [2016-02-28 11:16:13 +0000 UTC]

Did the the model in SFM got "Purple and Black checked"?
Like "Missing texture"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThatTF2Guy In reply to Nikolad92 [2016-02-28 21:38:08 +0000 UTC]

kinda. what i meant was that the model where you selected to change the whole skin wasnt there. the parts of it was but the actual name wasnt

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nikolad92 In reply to ThatTF2Guy [2016-03-04 16:06:20 +0000 UTC]

If you using the cocktail dress femscout then you will have to look trough a lot.
The skins should be called "team_dep" something like that.
Try add the $basetexture to any of them. And if it dosen't change try swap between the skins.
