Part 2: [link]Alright! Here's the first part of my Toothless plush tutorial! I'm already working on part 4 of the tutorial, so it's gonna be a big one. But it covers every step you need to make a Toothless plush! You're welcome to make some modifications to it if you want, as long as you give me credit for the base pattern.
This part only covers materials and how to piece the pattern pieces together. The links to the pattern pieces will be provided with each part of the tutorial as they are needed.

Because felt is a horrible fabric. It's not soft or cuddly and it just doesn't look very nice.

I ask because my mom bought a couple yards of black felt for a poodle skirt, but decided not to make it. So now I have a bunch of black felt and nothing to do with it.
But yeah, felt is pretty scratchy... I can see your point.

I finally have the time to make a toothless plushie and I'm a total newbie to sewing so can I ask a question? Should the pieces that I cute out for the fabric be a little bit bigger than the pattern so we can so it, or did you already include that extra space in the pattern? It looks like you didn't, and this is probably really obvious, but I have to ask. Thanks so much!

Yup, make the pieces you cut out bigger than the pattern (leave about 1/4 inch around the edges). Good luck!

I like your version of the plushie WAY better than the official ones ^^ If you ask me they look that bad cuase they just wanted to get money and lots of it so they didn't take the time to make the perfect plushie =3

Who did Dreamworks hire to make those plushies? That's something I'd put in a haunted house that jumped out at people. Your Toothless, however, I want to cuddle.

I'm really excited to try this! Since I saw the movie, I've been really wanting a Toothless plushie, but when I saw the official one, I thought that had to be a joke. It looks nothing like him! DX But yours is amazingly perfect! lol So cute!
So, question: You said to get 2 yards of fabric for the main part, but I'm assuming that's for the fleece you recommended. What if we get a fabric with a pile? I know it'd probably require more to get the fur going in the right direction all over, but how much do you think would be needed?

Hmmmm... For a fabric with a pile I'd say go with 3 yards to start with, but I thin that'll be enough. I'd go with a reeeeally small pile though, since Toothless isn't really furry at all. What sort of fur were you looking at?

I haven't been to Joanne's yet to get anything, but yeah, I was planning on a really small pile one. I have this Yoshi plushie that was made with a short-piled fabric thats really soft, and I was hoping to find something close to that in black for Toothless.

Hmm.. I know that used minky for her Toothless plush. That's a super soft, short pile fur. Not sure if it's the stuff you're looking for but it's what came to mind from your description.
