It's nice to see a tutorial for traditional media, instead of another "here's how to do something in photoshop" tutorial. Not that there is anything wrong with those...
...and it's a tutorial from an artist with a very beautiful gallery too!

thank you!
yes, i'm a big fan of traditional art,
i'm slow to catch up on this 'tech' stuff,
despite the fact that i'm 19, i believe
i have an old soul. haha

Starting with the traditional stuff is better IMHO! It's easier to transition from traditional to digital than the other way around.
...not that I am suggesting you should switch to digital. ^_^;;;

I actually started out working with digtal, long ago (hem hem, when I was 14-16 haha) and that's where I learned to shade. Slowly I went to traditional. I still enjoy working in digital everyonceinawhile, I've got a tablet & everything, i just prefer traditional.
thanks again.

i think this was really helpful - especially the part about sketching, because i normally never sketch, i just start drawing ha... but on the drawing i'm working on now i started with a sketch and i think it's really going to help. it took a lot of pressure off. and it made it a lot easier to fix mistakes before it got into the "can't go back now" stage.
and i really like your tiny eraser idea. actually just yesterday i bought this awesome eraser (magic rub - which is like, my favorite ha) that's sharpened and encased in wood like a pencil. so you kind of just draw on stuff to erase it. i love it. i think i might use your idea of cutting it to sharpen it to an even smaller point once i get into areas with finer detail.
thanks for posting this

woohoo, thank you so much darling!
I'm so glad it was of some help. Yea, I
used to not sketch really. I was just like:
WASTE OF TIME, SHADESHADESHADE
but it does help! like you said, it takes the pressure off.
plus once you sketch, you hardly even need the ref anymore!
That sounds awesome! I think I may have seen those before but I was like...wtf is this hahah. BUt now I'm gonna have to get one of those!!! I'll keep an eye out, thanks for the tip off!
