Description
I wanted to do some practicing and test what kind of style variations I have. I could come up with 7 variations for the time being, but there are likely more than these. I may draw few more and post another set or update this one.
I call the first two "default" styles, because they are most natural for me to draw. In fact, I didn't really aim for these two default styles, but I like to draw them the most. These styles have just emerged after a lot of practicing. It's quite funny actually, because I don't really use them much at all. If I'm gonna draw a real manga, I believe I would go with the default style.
The next two, "usual" and "sensual" styles are what I generally want to draw. These have a lot more attention to detailing and refining. Compared to the "default" styles, these require a lot more conscious efforts to get them look good.
The "angular" and "cute" styles were sort of extremes of line handling. I found that the "angular" style fits my working methods quite well. It's also quite close to the "default" style. The "cute" style, on the other hand, doesn't seem to fit me. If I want cuteness, I prefer going with the "true default".
With the seventh variation, I wanted to try more realistic take. I hardly ever draw this kind of style, but I really like it. I like how calm the drawing turned out.
Update:
Eight variant, "slender" style, is quite a different from the rest. Since I usually draw my lines quite bold, I tried drawing the lines very thin for a change. I also drew the character in shojo-like style. It turned out to be so different from the rest that I can almost consider it as an independent style rather than variation.
Number β¨Β is obviously the strongest style, so I drew "guy" style. This is purely for gags, and not very widely used independently. I however find it really fun and I hope I get to use it more in some manga. It's rather hard style because it takes a lot of understanding about the muscle anatomy, which I haven't studied enough. I just added some detailing and hope that it will fool the critical eye
"Serious" style is a bit less extreme version of the "guy" style. I like to draw beautiful girls and then draw them with their eyes full of contempt and oppression. I mostly use it in extreme close view so that the extra detailing of the make up will be visible. This style is also a bit similar to "sensual" style, though this aims to exaggerate the "ugly" side of girls, rather than erotic.
A friend of mine requested "loli" style, so I tried doing it. I'm not sure whether it's really a variant, or just younger version of the character. The body proportions aren't only smaller, but the anatomy is also more childish. She isn't chibi, although the head might be a bit too large.
Then there are the chibis. The two versions I drew are quite different if compared, but I still lumped them together. The smaller version is frequently seen in tutorials.
I probably could have come up more than these, but I'm not sure if I could have drawn more purely unique variants. The few I tried were obvious sub-variants of these. The position of the "serious" and "loli" variants are a bit unclear to me too.
Artists in training: you don't really need to put conscious efforts in devising your style. Your style will emerge when you gain more experience and get familiar with the techniques. Just keep drawing in various styles and mixing them together. Some day you will notice that you have your very own "default" style.

I really outta practice other artistic styles.
I've personally been fascinated by Bruce Timm, Dan DeCarlo, Hannah-Barberra and (the ever illusive) artists behind several Tatsunoko animes. ^^

I think you should diverge from sensual style.Β Every manga drawer seems to do that, and they always seem to blend into the mix, to the point where honestly I have trouble telling who does what.Β To be honest with you though, a few styles you admit to not normally doing seem to have quite a bit of potential.Β especially the angular and serious features.Β Not all women need to look womanly, boyish tomgirls are good too if not actually better in some stories, since it lends them to some very natural character developments later on. ^^
Your default isnt bad either. Β To be honest, even being able to draw in these many styles shows that you have quite a bit of talent. ^^ I would think a person with such potential would not wish to simply settle for conventional art styles ^^

Trying to teach myself to use different anatomy/head shapes (I've noticed all my charcters look the exact same, and my male jaw-lines are nearly impossible to draw with my neck style!), so far going horribly XD
All the tutorials seem to be teaching one-shape of either body or head at a time, and I need like five thrust upon me at once ;3;

guy style, i think that's the style the artist was using when making marie from project a-ko, she is kenshiro with pigtails.
i may have more styles than you, being the fact that i change style depending on who asked for a drawing... you seem to put a lot of effort in yours thoughΒ

Super jealous...Parsee Jealous...my eyes have turned green upon seeing this(and subesequently a real quick visit to other pics in the moment it took me to write this.).Β By the time I learned what I needed to learn...I'd be 40.Β Depression ain't gonna allow me to focus on somethin that long.
I now truly understand the term 'Wannabe', cause I sure as hell Wannabe an artist like this, even just ONE style would be enough.

The reason I can draw various styles is that I've been adopting features from my favorite mangakas. The way I draw has been constantly evolving because I have mixed features and sometimes forgotten others, only to relearn drawing them differently.
I didn't restrict myself with thoughts like "this is my style" or "this is my way of doing things". I originally just wanted to replicate japanese manga, I didn't even consider myself as an artist. At some point, I just realized that I had become an artist whether I wanted it or not.
Not everything is lost in your case, hopefully. You just probably need to "twist" your way of thinking quite a bit. I have had few moments where I have done complete overhaul on my way of thinking, first being the moment when a good friend of mine told me I suck big time and the second time when I got my first artist's block (the latter having few cons as well).

I understand what you're saying, depression is...not easily 'twist-able' though I do manage to come out of it long enough to get in the mood to attempt to draw something.Β Though never long enough to spend any extended time on it.Β Not like I'm using Depression as a crutch as I'd rather pretend such a thing didn't exist and just label it 'Lazinesss' which would be far more twist-able than anything else.
Along with that when I finally come out of a bout of DP I tend to hurry and do the first thing that comes to mind which isn't always drawing, sometimes it's gaming, music, trying to MAKE a game, MAKING music, 3D modeling.Β My page tells the story, well not literally as I don't actually write journals or anything like that.Β But you'll see what I post and there'll be LONG periods of time before something else gets put up there.
Only real way I could get ahead is if I could manage to put myself in an environment where I HAD to do these things ya know like school.Β Probably sounds like I'm making excuses, but I DO TRY when I feel like I can.
Ironically though I can look at something and copy it without actually tracing it to a fairly decent degree.Β I find, however, that it doesn't help drawing from memory or imagination.
One day though, one day.
