The Intrepid-Class Fast Cruiser - shown here (center) with companions and escorts - is the KIDF's primary 'ship of the line'. Fast, well-armored, and well-gunned, these ships are typically the centerpiece to an expeditionary force and are thus found in the largest numbers (by percentage). Their primary armament is a number of triple-mount particle beam turrets and these are then supplemented by a number of fixed forward high-volume torpedo launchers. A cluster of launch cells at the middle allow for a significant contribution to large-scale saturation-type engagements, such as fleet-on-fleet actions. As a point of sacrifice, they in turn carry very few sub-craft and are modestly crewed and quartered. These are strike vessels; at home, they are typically berthed and when away it is usually on specific short-duration assignments or with notable external support such as mobile yards and logistics facilities.
