Description For NationStates; Modeled in DoGa with lots and lots and lots and lots...

----

While angular and almost blocky in comparison, the OSA chose to take a lot of inspiration from the Republic Defense Force's 'GhostDragon' power armor in designing their own armor system. Like the 'Dragon, it would be a medium-weight platform - bulkier than slimmer 'Ironman'-style armors but not quite as heavy as something like ZMI's 'GroundSlam' - that would give wearers a high degree of operational flexibility while still retaining suitable battlefield protection. Again like the GD, it would be worn 'coffin style' with the operator's arms folded across the chest rather than adding overly-complex shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand armor and joints. This also allows for a large degree of standardization in manufacturing with most of the OSA's infantry being of the two-legged variety while arms and more-so hands vary wildly from claws to pincers to monkey paws.

Continuing with the theme of flexibility, the system has multiple built-in weapon systems; missile pods on each shoulder, a variant-wavelength pulse-type laser in the right arm, and a large 'carried' multi-munition linear accelerator on the left arm. This weapon is not actually carried, just as the laser in the right is not as small as it might appear. Noting that the operator's arms are actually in the torso, the entire arm is effectively a weapon sub-system and the 'carried' appearance of the left-arm rifle is just that - appearances. This does limit the operator's external manual dexterity to a single hand, but the arm itself is more than capable of lifting the entire unit plus additional weight given the need.

Though all typing is obviously done one-handed...

Beyond the weapon systems, the unit is provided with the usual assortment of environmental, communications, and other secondary systems. These are not quite up to RDF standards - no GESTALT total theatre awareness, no short-range FTL, no stealth systems - but unlike the GhostDragon, this system is considered 'commercial-grade' in the Republic and is thus available on the open market with the OSA actively soliciting buyers. It should be noted that, because of certain design decisions, the platform is very hard to modify or otherwise alter after-market. While some enterprising types might be willing to try (We're looking at you, Dornie), the engineering will typically result in a loss of functionality in one area that is equal to or exceeds the gain in functionality in another.
