This...took me...forever.
As previously mentioned, I don't mix well with backgrounds. They don't like me. Hence why this took me forever. *laughs*
Vivian is my favourite companion by far of the TTYD group. I don't know why, she's just really likable in my opinion (and she looks so squishy! Can't resist the squishiness). The Creepy Steeple chapter itself was great fun, although...Amayzee Daisies? NOOOO RUNRUNRUNRUNRUN. Damn things.
So yup. Here she is. Ta-daa! *jazz hands*
Comments and constructive criticism are forever appreciated.

WALL OF TEXT I'M SO SORRY ASDASDASDAS D:
Lol, so it was then when ~JustANoobInDrawing decided to visit your gallery because she liked your art. It was also when she wholeheartedly requested to not do the same to her, since she hates her art.
Buuuuut, going to the pic.
I also really like Vivian because she is sooooooo useful. I always hated when I had to face Embers since you canΒ΄t use her, since her abilities are so awesome.(I canΒ΄t believe you hate Amazy Dayzees, I defeated one with Supernova.. Two or three, actually... and leveled up in NO TIME. You should try killing them, it is useful. But FEAR if they attack you, the attacks are super hard to guard and it does 20 damage. @_@)
And I like how you did the eyes.... Oh god those eyes.
They look so beautiful.
So, I was looking at the comments and I noticed that you actually see her as a transgender. The first version I ever played was the american, so I always saw her as a native gal (Well, born as a woman. ) But I like how you take the fact that she is a dude/transgender in Japan and how you can make her look feminine even if her body looks male, that is really well done.
I like how you accept the fact that sheΒ΄s a dude in Japan and blend it with the american ver, and that is one of the things I like the most on this pic.
It is awesomely done, I donΒ΄t think I could handle it like that (I suuuuuuuck at males. Maybe I need more practice.
), so I really like that interpretation. ^^ One another note, I like the hat.
the part in the back is a tad too long, but who am I to critique it? IΒ΄m not half as good.
and I like how lines look sketchy, it kinda fits with the twilight theme (To me...)
On the other hand.... DonΒ΄t blame yourself for the backgrounds!! I love the colors, and the dark trees in the background look SO in-game!! I like it! and I love the twilight effect! Trust me, you do backgrounds pretty well. You should like your outcomes more.
Niiiiiice job.

*can't resist being told not to do something* YOU LIIIIEEEEE. You're actually pretty good! I mean, plenty of room for improvement but you're better than you think. ^_^
Oh, she is, isn't she? I love Fiery Jinx, especially when she's completely level'd up and it does plenty of damage... (Nice one! I might try that... Ugh, I know about their attacks though, I've been on the recieving end >_<)
Thank you bundles all over again for your awesome commenting/critiques! Ah, to me the original is always the canon. That, and there aren't half enough LGBT characters in games - I can't not pay tribute to one of the most awesome trans characters I know of! (I know what you mean about male bodies, I've only just got the hang of manchests...but enough staring at reference and doodling dudes repeatedly did the trick. ^-^) Thanks for pointing the hat out! I've kind of been muddling over the idea of doing a proper lineart-and-cel-shading version of this, so if I ever do then I'll fix the hat.
Ahahaha, thank you! I'm just never sure how well BGs have come out...you've probably seen that my recent stuff is the only stuff with backgrounds... xD
*le million hugs*

OHHH, I should have used inverse psychology then!! Check my gallery!!! I actually want to delete more than half of ma gallery, since I think that my very first well-done arts are the ones I am recently submitting. -.-' but yuour comment kinda gave me some motivation. I am embarassed you had to look at all my sh*t though.
Fiery Jinx is PERFECT in trhe battle aganist the Shadow Queen because it kills those DAMN hands that suck your HP. It kinda leaves her attackless, so itΒ΄s just perfect.
(I used supernova the fist time I saw an Amazy Dayzee. The recipe is: Supernova + Fiery Jinx/Multibonk = KILL.
.. I once defeated one ONLY beause it attacked me. But I donΒ΄t regret it. The ammount of damage is INSANE though. O_O)
YouΒ΄re very welcome! I am a huge supporter of critiques since I love to help people improve (I really dislike to critique people with better arts than mine though, I feel really uncomfortable. >_o). AAAAND, I assume that by "the original" you mean Japanese ver, right? I always saw her as a girl though, I still think itΒ΄s... weird to make her a dude... SheΒ΄s just too feminine for me to see her as a man. I stilllove the character anyways. IΒ΄ll try to practice men away, thanks for the suggestions! ^^ and youΒ΄re welcome. ^^
Then I love your most recent stuff. Your backgrounds are NICE

Muahaha! Oh, don't! You can always learn from your old artwork - seriously, take a peek over at the very beginning of - that was my old original account. THAT was me once, okay? xD You're far, far better than that.
I can't remember who I used against her any more...I might have just put my faith in Goombella and an absolute tonne of Power Lift abuse. xD #mytechniqueforeverything
(You'd not run into them during the chapter before? Lucky... xD)
Same - I'm terrible at giving them though, hopefully I'll be more confident in time so I can pay people back for all the help they've given me ^-^ Yeah - I dunno, I see her as a girl all the time, it's just that I wanted to do a picture that kind of...nodded to the fact she's transgender without making it a big deal. :3
Bwaaaaaaaa, shush! *laughs* But thank you!

She hasn't got boobs for good reason. *laughs* I wanted to draw fanart of Vivian that acknowledges the fact she's transgender without making it the main point of the drawing. (The main point being, of course, that Vivian is a freaking awesome character who deserves fanart. I adore her. )

darilhowell In reply to oddsocket [2011-09-01 00:39:47 +0000 UTC]
whats weird is... birdo is a transgender, and yoshi is supose to be going with her (him). That would make yoshi a weird gay fetish character !!!
π: 0 β©: 1
oddsocket In reply to darilhowell [2011-09-01 08:07:28 +0000 UTC]
Not really. *laughs* I mean, I'm not sure if birdo is transgender or a crossdresser*, but either way it doesn't make the Birdo/Yoshi thing weird. If Birdo's transgender, that just makes her Yoshi's girlfriend. If Birdo crossdresses, that just makes Yoshi gay. Either way they're adorable together.
*Which makes knowing which pronouns to use confusing as hell. I'll just trust in 'she'.

I don't think so, you know. What's wrong with having LGBT characters, after all? It's like saying kids shouldn't know that gay and trans people exist. xD

Militron623 In reply to oddsocket [2012-12-09 20:23:07 +0000 UTC]
Japan is actually mature with or expresses the issue to their kids unlike America. Hell, they even had lesbians/gays in shonen (ages 10-14 in Japan) media like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. This would be an interesting subject to talk about with my Gay Straight Alliance Club this week.
π: 0 β©: 1
oddsocket In reply to Militron623 [2012-12-10 14:46:50 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I wish America and the UK weren't so touchy about media containing stuff like that. It confuses me to think that in this day and age, having a gay or transgender character in a game is still considered as something that renders it un-'family-friendly' and therefore must be censored out because THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
(Makes me laugh the way they tried to censor out the relationship in Sailor Moon by making them COUSINS. Suddenly everything looks ambiguously incestuous and for some reason that's more okay than them just being two girls who like eachother.)
It is pretty interesting to see how different countries do things in terms of how they treat LGBT stuff.

Thank you very much! I don't see much Original!Vivian - I love the fact she's trans female in the Japanese game and it sucks that they censored that detail out in the English translations. Yeah, now you point it out....it's a shame it's a sketch drawing, or I'd run in there and fix it. *laughs*
Thank you again for the amazing comment (and for watching me!), it's always really nice to hear what went well and what I could have done a little better. It's really appreciated!

Vivian is only a he in that Jap version. All traces of such were removed and her gender was changed to female in the Eng version. So if you pkayed the Eng version, she's a GIRL.
Love the pic, the sketchiness, and the BG is flawless. C:

Again, same correction as I just made for - Vivian isn't a 'he' in either version, she's transgender rather than a cross-dressing character so she takes female prounouns. ^-^

Lol, she's physically a "he" in the Jap version, and nothing besides a she in the Eng version. But either way she's technically a "she", just MORE so in one game d:

Damn Dayzees. I got slaughtered by one, never trusted the damn things again. Still, I'm Crazy High Level now so I could prolly take 'em >:3 )

π: 0 β©: 1
oddsocket In reply to Meishali [2011-08-28 10:49:15 +0000 UTC]
The idea is in the Japanese version that she's a trans girl. ^-^ Goombella, for example, acknowledges her as female at the end of the game. (Or so I read, I'm not capable of reading Japanese yet so I'm trusting the people who can.)
π: 0 β©: 1
Zenhero In reply to oddsocket [2012-12-06 05:13:21 +0000 UTC]
Now I'm all confuzzled. I do believe that in the Japanese version she's physically a male but prefers to be referred to as female (description as a follower is ""One of the shadow group, Vivian appears to be a girl but is really a boy", American version she's a female, and Italian version she's a post operation male-to-female.
I wish they hadn't changed it for different countries and just kept the Japanese version. It gets so confusing this way. ._.
π: 0 β©: 1
oddsocket In reply to Zenhero [2012-12-06 16:36:42 +0000 UTC]
Same, same! I don't understand why censoring it was necessary - it's like Birdo all over again (Although, admittedly, Birdo has a bit more ambiguity. Is Birdo transgender or a cross-dresser? We may never know...At least Vivian is pretty clearly a transgender woman who identifies as female 24/7.) Oh, America.
It's funny how much controversy she still causes, though. Like, why can't the Paper Mario fandom settle down about gender debate and just universally agree that Vivian is a total sweetheart?
π: 0 β©: 1
Zenhero In reply to oddsocket [2013-02-18 05:42:07 +0000 UTC]
That sounds like a good plan, haha. Really, it's not like her gender makes any real effect on the game or her personality. Also I forgot deviantart was a thing again. That usually happens.
