Description
SIDE NOTE: Please note that this tutorial is a few years old and my own art has improved a lot since then. I will eventually update this, or upload a new one completely. In the mean while, I do hope it helps!*edit* due to dA issues with showing the damn tut, i had to reupload it, no preview image. Sorry for inconvenience with that stupid downloading.
--
The long awaited anatomy tutorial is finished! I hope it helps people, I hope it's satisfactory... It took me forever to do it... oO; This is obviously not for anyone that knows a lot about anatomy already- it's a tutorial to help people that don't know much or need help improving. Please ignore any spelling mistakes... I'm sure they're there even though I did look it over a few times. I do indeed hope this helps people. It's hard to cram something as complex as human anatomy into a little tutorial like this, but at any rate, I still hope some people will find it useful, even if it's not exactly perfect....
Sorry if there's anything I failed to mention- like I said, there is just so much information, it's hard to fit it all in.
Thanks! Enjoy.
Edit: Sorry for the long loading time... >>;;;
EDIT: DISCLAIMER!!! I do not claim to know everything there is to know about anatomy nor do I claim to have a perfect knowledge. I KNOW this tutorial is flawed and is not a perfect shining example of EXACT proportionate anatomy. Please understand this tutorial is not designed to cause you to draw LIKE me- but give you a basic understanding of skeletal structure, muscle structure and how it all fits together. Find your own style and work off more than one source. I do not claim this is the only way you can learn anatomy. You should study from multiple sources, but this can be a good foundation to get you started in an UNDERSTANDING. Again, I do not claim to know all, so do not think that I am. Thank you.
comments and faves appreciated.

Either click on teh title to get the full url that should work for full size, or click 'download'.
This happened since they changed their layout on dA, so it messed 'em all up and for some idiotic reason, you can't upload a gif to the tutorial section. It's asinine. >.<

No worries. Ever since dA updated their look with the latest everything, the tuts section was changed and I no longer can use the preview images properly, which sux big time. But, I've changed that now, so no more 'what?' going on. lol.

Nice. You did a good job of keeping it simple yet informative. We've been attempting to try our hand at less anime-like drawings and failing rather spectacularly, and this looks like it'll be a great help.

Thank youuuu. 8D I've never bothered drawing out the sketch beforehand (which is why all my full body drawings suck x.x) and today I told myself I was going to try so I drew the head and then realized I had no idea what the rest of it was supposed to look like. xD

great tutorial, but i'm stil plowing trough frustration for like.. 3/half hours now today..
still don't have one decent sketch, i'm still frustrated as hell, but i really need to get trough this roadblock,,
it happens each time i try to draw anatomy..
did everyone who learned the basic anatomy went trough this tense frustration? or is it just me having a lack of talent?

understanding anatomy doesn't come over night, it takes a lot of effort and study. Don't push yourself too hard though. My recommendation as well is to use photos of people. Also, go here: posemaniacs it will help a lot to see the muscles and such. Sometimes breaking it down helps you see how it works a lot better. Keep working at it, it'll come to you.

Fantastic tutorial. I have searched a little while on GOOGLE but it was difficult for me to find a tutorial that had the same concept of 'measuring by heads' as what I learned as a child. I am so glad to see that the concept is still around, I feel it is a spectacular way to teach and learn about anatomy.
Thank you for sharing !!

I didn't know the preview image still worked. lol. I created it before dA changed their preview image policies which are only for non JPGS and PNG's. However, GIF's are not allowed in the 'tutorial' section, which is totally asinine. So, unfortunately, the preview images don't work for tutorials any more cuz dA is a bunch a dorks. lol.

IM sorry but you did forget to mention some things so i hope you dont mind me pointing out a few things. c:
-the body is actually 7 1/2 heads, Tho in greece they used 8 because 7 seemed to small. So most realism artists use 8 to stick to tradition i guess? also cartoons are varied c: i seen alot of ppl use 7 1/2 and if they are going for longer legs and stuff they have their own anatomy, Its cool seeing when ppl make it up, but only if they know what there doing.
Also for cartoons this would be appropriate but for Anatomy, the female body is too thin..
Thats all i can think of at the top of my head. Not bad tho c:

odduckoasis In reply to Paper-Chel [2010-06-13 22:40:14 +0000 UTC]
I know there are mistakes, I've already been chewed out by another artist who has an anatomy tut. In order to make this though, I did use other references I've had to make it accurate and the refs I used said 7 heads high. The 7 1/2 to 8 heads is for more exaggeration and in Fashion Design- they can sometimes go over 8 heads for longer legs- more appealing.
I know the body is too thin in this... I don't claim to be perfect or an expert, I already made a disclaimer. This is also several years old and I have grown as an artist since then.
But thanks anyways.

No, actually the human body IS 7 1/2 heads tall, 8 is for making it look more, idk XD Just so you know, cause i have tons of anatomy books here and it all says the same thing c: 7 1/2 i didnt waste my money x'D just letting you know.
and thats a good thing c: and youll keep growing as an artist too
