Description
So the Pokémon Company has announced this month as Dragon type Month according to this (mobile.twitter.com/Pokemon/sta… ), and for the paleontology community it is Dinovember. Well then here's another attempt of mine to draw a realistic Pokémon, a dragon type based on a dinosaur this time. One of the most dangerous and powerful native predators to the Unova region is Haxorus, a 1.8-meter tall Pokémon that his been listed as a Dragon type. They are, however very rare in the wild. The young, known as Axew, are more common, but still a rare species. Before becoming Haxorus, an Axew first goes through a transitional form in between known as Fraxure. All growth stages have toothy mouths with 2 of these teeth being too large to fit in the mouth and instead point outwards as tusks, and are the main weapons used in combat for these Pokémon. In Axew the tusks are comparatively small. They become larger in Fraxure but when reaching the Haxorus stage they undergo rapid transformation and change from the previously more triangular shape to something comparable to axe blades. While an Axew can regrow its tusks if they break off, Fraxure and Haxorus will not regain them if lost and thus go to great care to preserve their valuable weapons. They will often sharpen their tusks against rocks and trees, marking their territory as well in the process, and also lick mud to obtain minerals that strengthen the tusks. Haxorus and all of its growth stages are omnivorous, but primarily carnivorous (Axew, however, exhibits a greater extent of herbivory than its elder stages and is more often seen eaten berries). The eggs of this species are generally laid in the dirt in caves, hence Axew are more commonly seen in caves. As they mature they show a preference for a woodland habitat that provides more large prey to hunt like Sawsbuck. Haxorus are usually more docile to humans but they can easily enraged and once angered they are extremely dangerous. Tusks that can make short work of steel beams are equally deadly when used on a person. They will also attack a trainer's Pokémon if the person were to try defending himself with them, but Haxorus is a very powerful opponent, some individuals even able to ignore the abilities of other Pokémon when attacking, like being able to hit a Pokémon with levitate using a Ground type move. This itself is an ability commonly called Mold Breaker.
Haxorus and its growth stages are a late-surviving lineage of dinosaurian pokemon. While many dinosaur Pokémon like Tyrantrum died out long ago, some like Haxorus haven't survived into the present day. Haxorus is a type of theropod dinosaur Pokémon, and ironically so is its main rival species. Bisharp is also a theropod, but it is a feathered one unlike the scaly Haxorus and is more closely related to bird Pokémon like Pidgey than it. Like bird Pokémon, Bisharp lacks teeth or a bony tail, but it has sharp claws and a strong beak that can easily kill prey. They are arguably more dangerous than Haxorus as they are social pack hunters. Most Bisharp to not grow to reach the 1.6-meter tall form that it is usually thought of as and instead are only 0.5 meters tall and have less-patterned plumage and a smaller crest. This form is commonly called Pawniard. While often believed to be juvenile Bisharp, a Pawniard can be adult, but only the most dominant individual in a pack grows into the Bisharp stage. The dominant Bisharp commands the Pawniard in the pack. When a pack of Pawniard find prey, often larger than themselves, they ruthlessly stab it with their sharp claws and try to hold it down with their combined effort. This is when the lead Bisharp arrives to land the killing blow to the mostly immobilized prey, and it tends to get the biggest share of meat from the kill and leave little for the other Pawniard. Perhaps the reason only the dominant individual can grow out of the Pawniard stage is that the other Pawniard do not get enough nutrients and food to grow that far.
Pawniard and Bisharp have the habit of sharpening their claws on rocks near rivers. As Haxorus, Fraxure and Axew have a similar habit of sharpening their tusks, the two species often engage in territorial battles for ownership of the best sharpening grounds. As they are both predators of the same prey they also engage in fights for food. The two are rivals with each other and due to the frequency and deadliness of these battles, it is generally advised to stay away from areas where both species are found, but honestly, either one alone is dangerous. These fights usually result in injury or even death for either or both species as prime territory is worth fighting over and both are armed with dangerous weaponry.
