The had a comic too, but it sucked! I'm saving you from me.The brothers! Oscar, Boyd, and Rolf. According to the FAQ on the official Japanese site, these three are half brothers; they all have the same father (which Boyd apparently takes after the most). Which gives me the warm fuzzies that they've been looking after each other in Path of Radiance, but raises so many questions here. What are the odds that their father would gain full custody of all three of them? Maybe the judges are misogynist.
Oscar was aiming for an ambitious joint MD/JD, but then their father died, and everything started to collapse. He quit school and struggled to balance work and taking care of his brothers. Two or so years prior to the present, he runs into Greil. Greil offers to help take care of his brothers so long as Oscar goes back to school and gets his law degree. AND SO, Oscar is now part of Merck & Co. And yes, he does cook for them. He is a dang fine cook.
Boyd is 17, close to 18. Boyd is dang cool. He doesn't work at Merck & Co., but he likes to hang around all the time because Oscar and Ike are there. He and Mist also harass each other. He's probably pals with Gatrie too, they never talked in PoR but you get the feeling. And he thinks Titania is a really nice mom or something.
Rolf. I'm not to good with kids. What is he, 12? Did I draw him like a 12-year-old? What do 12-year-olds do? What did I do at 12? 5/6th grade? Wow. Does he act younger than 12 even in PoR? Nyarrrgh.

Oscar looks more like Prosecutor Ito, [link] if he grew his hair out more, and fixed it and covered his left eye with his bangs he'll look good.

well, im twelve.....and i look a lot more awesome than rolf does but........rolf is a little bit a softie in PoR...so yeah he's nicely drawn! he IS looking like eleven year's old and in first grade! (well, in your counhtry that would be sixth right? french i guess.....

Oh lord. I find Painter so hard to use . . . though it's rewarding. What brushes can (possibly) produce such clean, digital-looking results? I've never been able to do that with Painter.
. . . But then again, I don't use it that much so I don't practice with it.

There's definitely practice involved. After a lot of trial and error, my tool of trade for making the lines is a modified acrylic opaque detail brush. I reduce the size variation to almost nothing, and change it from cover to build up. That way pressure just manipulates how "hard" the line is drawn, which has a very steady control on the thickness. I just find a direct affect on the size just makes the lines too wonky for me! For blocking in color it's just the same acrylic detail brush but set to cover.

Spoilers? => Well, I don't think the judge was necessarily misogynist. It actually seems like those kids had deadbeat moms! Imagine that! XD (or maybe Oscar and Boyd's mom died so father remarried).
Anyway, the actual story was that Rolf's mom ditched Rolf and co. when their dad got sick because she couldn't take the stress or something. Well, dad dies, and she tries to regain custody over Rolf (e.g. When she meets up with him again in RD, she asks if Rolf wants to live with her now that she's stable and remarried to some other guy, but he refuses. This can also be part of your Merck & co. story as a custody case! XD).

According to the PoR website, they all have different mothers. The big ol' base info from Radiant Dawn doesn't seem to say anything to the contrary, just Rolf's mom gets a lot of focus.

Rolf's a real weirdo. I always thought he'd sound something like that Jimmy kid from Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Hahahaha! He acts enough like him, little homo. I say this with affection, people. So don't get on me about it. Also, Boyd is one of my favorites in the game, he looks awesome. That thing on his shirt... Really creepy. At first I thought it was Greil in a viking hat. Hahahah!

Heh, they all translated really well into modern style. I really admire your ability to design costumes; I'm terrible at it. >< At least for guys... coming up with interesting costumes for girls is much easier IMO.

As I recall, Rolf acts like a 6 year-old in PoR, which gets amusing when he starts trying to act all cool and badass around, say, Marcia or Mist. I'd put his age at about 15 in RD, so 12 seems like a good guess. Man, his outfit translated so well into that dorky polo and those shorts that I didn't even notice the change at first.
Is that alarming-looking personage on Boyd's shirt supposed to be anyone in particular?

I like the pattern you can notice on Oscar's vest. It looks so soft! <3 And I thought Oscar and Boyd were full-brothers, and Rolf was the half-brother. Hm. Maybe I need to look that up again.
12-year-olds would be in... 6th grade, or possibly 7th grade, going by my logic (turn 18 in 12th grade, 17 in 11th grade, so far on back 'till you reach turn 12 in 6th grade). So let's see... in 6th grade, he'd probably be reading a lot of comics, sports, onset of puberty. I was... obsessed with Neopets when I was twelve... oh dear. o.o"

Not to mention that if they're half-brothers, that means their dad has been havin' a good time with three separate chicks. And THEN ended up with full custody of all three of then. Maybe there are even more brothers out there! Oh sweet mother, the spazz theories just keep coming!
I love Oscar's outfit-he looks like a total battle butler. And you know, green dress shirt, green pants, green vest, green tie. He sure knows how to color-coordinate! I can totally see Boyd and Gatrie as best friends, or at least good, pall-around sort of friends. Great times. Man, I just love you with your trademark sunburnt knees and elbows. What was Rolf doing at twelve? Good question-hiding voice changes and playing Pokemon cards? XD
