Description Actually, this piece was inspired by the original artist of DC comics reinvisioning of the character Starman in that he has this beautifully telling way of captuiring emotion via tight closeups of a body part and the face of the offender. I had hoped to pay homage.
In this case, I imagine that Le Fantome and his young lady love have just been in the midst of a rather heated argument. The encounter was most certainly not intended to end so badly considering the fact that Erik has brought a gift ,the red rose, which has pricked his hand and caused trickles of blood signifying love and pain...I know, I know...very obvious symbolism, but please bear with me.
I am not partucularly satisfied with it at all. The scan highlighted too much of the yellows, which for some reason look blended in the actual drawing. Also, Erik's knuckles are waaay out of proportion.

Absolutely gorgeous, Operageist--I couldn't tear my eyes away from that hand. I love the unique composition--powerful stuff!

Thank you very much. I like doing odd compositions, or oddly centered ones at least::smiles::

By the by, it is Opergeist...a germanic bastardization::smiles::

I didn't even see the rose until I read the comment >_<. There's just so much to look at!

I don't think the knuckles are out of proportion, at all. His hand is supposed to look rather arthritic, it's so emaciated. The knuckles would be very pronounced, and I think you did a good job of conveying that. Very nice.

Thank you very much. I dunno...perhaps it's all of the ink around them that juts them out so much..seems abrasive to me, but as long as a few people like it, then it's worth it::smiles::

The detail on the hand itself is stunning - every break in his bones, every bit of his thin wiry hand captured.
As you mentioned, there's a lot of the yellow effect that has been brought forward, but it's not spoilt. It sort of adds her as being the lighter side in the darkness.
It's nice to see an artist who relies on symbolism as well....very rare...

Fwoo. I'm absolutly winded, tis is really awesome. I think the yellow looks fine; seems like some deep light is shining up on them. And you draw hands/blood/people all so well. I saw this picture and was completly astounded. And Eriks veins are an exelent touch; everyone always forgets his veins. And Christines hair oddly amuses me; its awesome. <3<3<3<3

Well, regarding the hair, I always see Christine with this flowing, fantasy girl hair and the costume designer in me tears his eyes out. She would have had a very period hairstyle, but for my purposes, with a strictly period hairstyle, she looks too matronly and severe....so I gave just a hint of period hair and kept the falling tresses, much against my own pickiness.

THe veins go along with my treatment of his age. Particularly since the film, I've been seeing alot of the "Geriks" who seem to be getting younger and younger. My Phantom is a decidedly older gentleman of at least 50 when this little episode occurs, thus the gnarlier look of his hands.

Ah, yes. The more Gerrik steps in, the younger and less deformed Erik gets. Those new movie phangirls have to learn some respect and be able to admit they love a 50 year old man with no nose rather then a 25 year old one with a sunburn.

All the more power to you!

I've been notoriously bad at hands, so this composition was just as much a practice piece as it was an honest-to-god finished piece. I'm glad that it has been so well recieved.

As I told you via email, monsieur, this is indeed an excellent piece - very unique perspective and great atmosphere. Though, if you don't mind me saying so, Christine's hands seem a tad small compared to the rest of her figure, and perhaps hear head is slightly too large. At any rate, that's nitpicking, otherwise, it's beautiful.

Sometimes obvious symbolism is the best You can imediatelly see the broken hearted look in his eyes, mingled with perhaps a little residual rage... Sorry bout the fancy language, I was just reading poetry
I love his ring!
