Description Might be the last bit of personal work you'll see in a little while... unless, that is, you'd like to see doodles. And I don't think I could bear to post just any doodle, as I don't want to waste your time, but if I come up with a decent collection I can upload those together. I don't know, I'm a bother right now, and I have a lot more important work to be doing!

Yet another of those "waiting for the paint to dry" studies worked on between all the other little things. However, I found it justified, as poor Sorstan the assassin has had extremely few depictions of him posted here, and even less in color. Poor bugger.

That said, I'm also a bit peeved by the way the color bounced off the highlight areas and bled out a bit, haha! Likely need to readjust my scanner, as I'm only so apt at photoshop. *groan* (You think it's just a lame excuse, but I promise you it looks more consistent in person. Unless I'm actually going blind?)

No. For the love of all things holy, he is not meant to resemble a maned wolf, fox, or anything of a russet coated persuasion, I assure you. His plain coat needed some points, so I added them. Note that the creamy markings are not white, but just that, dull cream. I'm not fully certain how I feel about those dark stockings of his, though they serve the purpose of being less visible than light colored feet. His younger brother, Tjardek, is similar, yet is more of a deep dark auburn/mahogany and has less dramatic "points" to his coat.

It's likely I missed something. Anyway, this was an assortment of Derwent colored pencils (Artists, Studio, and Coloursoft) on my preferred surface of choice, Canson Mi-Teintes. (It's a pastel paper.)

Thoughts, comments, critiques, what have you are welcome.

Thanks very much! There will likely be more of these at some point, as nearly all of my characters need updated coloration.

Very nice! I don't know much about the pallanophs or the various pallanoph characters, but I always love seeing them come up in my devwatch. They're so familiar and earthly, but not at the same time. It makes them extremely convincing as a type of creature. I've always been a fan of basing invented creatures in reality so that they are realistic and evolutionarily plausible.

The colored pencil work on the fur is great as usual, and I think the coloration works well.

Out of curiosity, at what scale do you work in colored pencil? As in, how big are your physical colored pencil drawings? All my colored pencil drawings are really, really small and done with super fine points. So yeah, just wondering.

That's awesome to hear, especially as earthly and familiar yet strange are definitely feelings I want to come across in their appearance.

Glad you like the coat coloration, too! I had to keep myself from over complicating it, lol.

I knew I missed something! The size! This was originally drawn on a 9x12 sheet of paper, so those dimensions are very close to the size of the drawn character. (The border was expanded because it came so close to the character.) For a full figure drawing, I can't work too much smaller that that if I'm doing this level of detail. I sure wish I could, though!

Oh interesting. I work at about half that scale. I've always drawn everything really small. I guess the smallness allowed me to actually finish stuff, because I've always had a crippling inability to finish drawings, especially larger ones.

As for doing smaller stuff with colored pencil, I work on bristol plate, which is super smooth and allows for superfine detail. It's definitely my favorite surface for colored pencil.

Ah! I totally envy you, then, if you can work that small. Every time I attempt to start something small, it literally "grows" until it has consumed the entire paper, even if I'm doing gestural studies to map out the subject. It's ridiculously frustrating!

Oh yes, bristol... that would definitely help with more precise works. I use it now and again, though I favor heavier tooth to layer more color. Do you use a vellum finish, or smooth plate finish? I find the smooth to be a little too slick for my tastes.

Haha, and I'm frustrated because I can never get my drawings to properly fill a page.

I use the plate variety for ultimate smoothness. We used the vellum a ton in design studios for rendering and also 3D projects, so I got used to using bristol for everything, and came to like it a lot for colored pencil work. I've used rougher paper for colored pencil, but it seems like it's forcing me to draw bigger to obtain the same level of detail. I should try it again.

Fur texture. And such pretty, pretty colored pencil work! Seriously, I have yet to see anyone do fur as believably as you do. Also, heehee little dainty paws.

How kind of you! Ohhh, I dunno 'bout that, I've seen some stunning photo-realism executed in colored pencil. (Unless you mean things drawn without photo reference? )

Hehe... his feet do look a little small here.
