II. Background
History:
TLDR; So this one time, at band camp, an asshole broke his heart and he suffered for it.
Born and raised in Texas, Adam was born to a happy religious couple, and was always surrounded by his large family. His mother was a musician, and his father a petroleum engineer with connections to the oil industry. He already had 3 brothers older than him, and a younger sister would come soon after him. His childhood was fairly normal, whether hanging out with other boys at Boy Scouts meetings, playing with his friends and brothers at the pool, or watching the sunset at the lake while eating ribs.
There were only two things that separated him from the other kids - the fact that he seemed to be a musical prodigy from the first time he sat at the piano, and his dyslexia. From a young age, he found it hard to read the words in his school books. The music notes seemed to dance on the page and made perfect sense to him, but when it came to English letters he struggled to comprehend what they were saying in his head. Despite this, his childhood was always filled with music and laughter.
During 8th grade, he had managed to finish his Eagle Scout project. However, he had to quit due to marching band starting up soon. Though marching band was hard, he loved what it had to offer him. It was a new experience for him, as he’d never been a part of something so large before. The summer before sophomore year, he was practicing his instrument for marching band camp in the empty music class before a confused and lost upperclassman wandered into his room. After an initial awkward first impression, the two quickly became friends. The upperclassman, a senior whose name was Russell, initially thought the awkward pubescent teenager was annoying, but they bonded after a random chance encounter at an 18+ Megadeth concert. Rus was impressed that he was able to make it in. The next year was spent with laughter and fun together, and Adam began developing a bit of a crush on him. He had a few short flings with some high school band girls, but they never lasted long. However, the week he had planned on telling Rus his feelings, he found him gone. He tried texting him, but never got any responses. He tried messaging him on Facebook, but none of his messages ever got through. Was it possible that he had been… blocked?
His junior and senior year, his grades suffered from a new feeling - depression. The most important year of his high school career, and he blew it. He let his feelings get in the way of his success - not only had he lost his best friend, but his SAT scores were barely passable, after retaking it twice. His GPA experienced a steady decline, his grades staying at the minimum score to allow him to stay in his extra curricular activities. However, the one thing that had changed for him was his new position as drum major. Though he was the only junior running the spot, he felt pride knowing he was the one who did the job right the most. He soon built a reputation for being not only one of the highest ranking in the state for his instrument, but for being a fun loving, yet competent leader. Though he suffered with his depression and dyslexia, he tried to build a strong front and genuinely had fun during the next two years with his high school band. During the summer of junior year, he applied for drum corps (aka next level marching band for professionals) with a few friends of his. Though not all of them made it in, and the upcoming summers would prove hell for him, he still had fun with the organization. His biggest struggle was learning that in a world where he was used to being the best both musically and technique wise, he was suddenly thrown into a world where everyone was on par with him.
High school graduation came far too soon for him. Apart from the academics, he enjoyed his time in high school, making friends and being in a part of something that he’d never forget for the rest of his life. Though he had been rejected from his first choice in schooling, he was able to attend a university with a great music program and marching band on a band scholarship due to his leadership experience and Eagle Scout status. He was excited, excited to meet new band members, live in a dorm, join a fraternity. However, once he got there, he realized could no longer juggle the responsibilities of both band and college courses. He was frustrated with his schoolwork, and because he didn’t turn in his work or study, he failed most of his courses. He had no choice but to drop out from university after his second semester of school.
After dropping out of school, he began working with his father in the oil industry. All was well for him, he could make some extra cash before continuing DCI in the summers, and he was free to do what he wanted on his down time. However, with the oil industry bust in recent years, he suddenly found himself stuck. He had to find himself a proper career. He couldn’t continue doing Drum Corps but he didn’t want to go back to university. Whether it be from anxiety of being the oldest in a class full of babies straight out of high school, or worrying about the work courseload. Luckily, one of his older brothers, who was an airline pilot, provided him with an alternative - Command0s.
Joining the Air Force division with inspiration from his older brother, he was both nervous and filled with anticipation. He was nervous about returning school, but excited thinking about old memories that he made, and what new ones would hold in store for him. However, during this first year, he ran into a familiar face -
Russell.
He was ecstatic to see Rus, however, his frustration was stronger than his excitement. His opinion of him was only soured when Rus treated him almost as a stranger. Here he finally found the one who broke his heart again, and he was ignorant to all of his feelings. After many failed attempts, he gave up on trying to reconcile with his friend again. Their relationship, now strained, only made it harder for them to be around each other, as they were in the same division and year. For the rest of freshman year, he kept building up his tough persona. If he was going to be a cold-hearted ass towards him, he would treat him in the same manner. However, deep down in his heart, he only wants to be friends again. But he knows his top priority is towards the school, and what he must to to only further improve himself.

A man who seems to radiate confidence. Despite the trumpet being his least favorite brass instrument, he enjoys being the center of attention. He always carefully chooses his words based on the situation and environment. He stresses the importance of knowing when to relax, and when to be serious. Outside of class/training he’ll be goofy and joke around, but during practice he always puts in is 100% and gets irritated when others slack off. As a very observant person, he will most likely figure out who is trying to screw him over, and who is actually a real friend of his. He acts nice, but truly doesn’t care much for others unless they’re close to him, or if they’re a part of his band family. In order to achieve his petty goals, he will stoop so low as to manipulate people. It has been ingrained in his brain so much, that at this point he often does it without realizing.

Had no main instrument during marching season. Freshman year of high school he played baritone, sophomore year he switched to mellophone (with his own show solo), junior and senior year he was drum major. During concert season he would play euphonium. During his time in drum corps, he played a different brass instrument every year.
