Description
I like to think she's just unconscious. Maybe she'll take the hint when she wakes up.Not gonna lie, people... I reeeally want to call her "Plusenta".
OK, this was just to vent a little frustration. Just a quick one! God damnit, YouTube is screwed up these days. You know I wouldn't even mind so much (don't really post many videos or comments) except for the friggin' dialogue box that pops up asking me whether this time I maybe wanna sign in with my real name instead of my alias account.
NO. I DO NOT. STOP IT. STOP ASKING.
WHERE is the checkbox saying "Never ask me this question again, die dialogue box, die, I hate you."?
I actually rather like Google+ ON ITS OWN but this integration has been very badly handled... and really would want to minimise use of my real name online anyway. You know, as common sense dictates?!!

Well... what can I say? When you're right you're right! Even Toto always used to say "Bòno sì, ma fesso nò!", or rather "Good, yes, but no fool!"

Herpetologists (that's a real word, btw) will tell you that certain species of turtle can breathe through their butts.
I'm not sure that helps, but it's certainly interesting.

YES. I agree with you entirely. Before, it constantly pissed me off when youtube kept asking if I wanted to use my full name. NO. JUST NO.Β What bothers me the most now, though, is that I DON'T GET NOTIFICATIONS WHEN SOMEONE COMMENTS ON ONE OF MY VIDEOS. Like, what the fuck? Am I just supposed to leave them hangin, not getting to them until I finally find the time to look through ALL the comments on ALL my videos, so I can finally answer the people who comment? It's ridiculous.

To damn with faint praise, the OLD comment system never worked properly either, and even if it had it still would have been horrible, so it's more a step sideways than downwards. Also, no sane and non-masochistic person ever gave a damn about YT comments anyway.
The accounts thing, as well as the lack of a "remember this choice" option, is still bucked though.

I found the comments to be quite entertaining.
Especially the loooong comment chains that devolved into ad hominem insults.

Judging from the not-quite-so-recent thoughts of Google's Larry Page, I'd guess the last two wishes go against several parts of Google's core philosophy. So I'm not very optimistic in that regard.

ParallaxMLP In reply to Silverweed91 [2013-11-13 15:35:59 +0000 UTC]
It's unlikely to happen! YouTube is built nicely into Google's infrastructure (their own fibreoptic networks, their datacenters, whatever) which gives them a huge advantage from the perspective of operating costs, as most of that equipment was there to begin with.Β
By using existing Google infrastructure, YouTube can store and shuffle vast amounts of video data cheaply around the world.
In other words it would be extremely hard to compete!

Not you too...
Yes I did read the description, no that won't change the fact that people complaining are even more annoying now.
Also, the box can be swat away by changing your name a littlebit (or simply keeping it the same, but still "changing", you get what I mean) through G+ which takes less than 2 minutes...

ParallaxMLP In reply to LennyTribe [2013-11-13 13:38:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes, me too, I'm afraid Β
You shouldn't need to invent workarounds like that (although as you say, that's pretty much what I had to do) but, that said, it's not everyone's biggest complaint. It's all the other things which ripple down through the system.
It's fine to not be bothered by it, but have fun coping with a lot of complaining, as many people are miffed about it, and rightly so.Β I'm sure there are people who find those complacent with the changes annoying as well, because such people brush off their concerns as somehow insignificant just because it doesn't bother them.

I've never understood how people have had trouble with the real name thing. It asked me once, I told it no, bullshitted a reason, and it's never asked me again.
π: 0 β©: 1
ParallaxMLP In reply to blokrokker [2013-11-13 12:56:42 +0000 UTC]
I would love to know how you did that! For the rest of us, it was all "OK WE'LL ASK YOU AGAIN LATER", which was about as thinly veiled a "screw you, you will do what we want" as possible.
Eventually it relented on the real-name thing but still you need a G+ account. This introduces other problems as now there are no unique usernames (previously you couldn't have an alias that someone else already had - now you can, I think?) so it's a bit of a mess right now.

blokrokker In reply to ParallaxMLP [2013-11-13 20:06:14 +0000 UTC]
This was at the very beginning of the merging process, so it was a year or two ago, I think. My memory is shit, so bear with me. It popped up a window saying "Hey, what's your real name so we can stalk you and shit?" and there was a small text option (not even a proper button) that said "I would like to keep my username" and then it popped up a list of radio buttons to give a reason as to why, stuff like "I want to be known by a certain handle" or "I am a representative of a company/media outlet/etc." I chose "Other" and when it prompted me to give a reason (not like anybody would REALLY read that, you know?) I typed "Because I don't want my goddamn name on your shitty fucking website." Never got another request.
Note: This was probably the fifth/sixth time it had attempted to dupe me into being a moron, so I was fed up, hence the response.

ParallaxMLP In reply to blokrokker [2013-11-13 20:14:08 +0000 UTC]
Interesting. I'd do the same thing - it would pop up and I'd constantly say that no, I want to keep using my username. I don't think I ever clicked "other" and typed something though. Sounds like I needed to do that -_-Β

MrHighTest In reply to ParallaxMLP [2013-11-14 04:13:00 +0000 UTC]
Well what happened with me is that I ended up with a Youtube account anyway. This time I have 2 Youtube accounts; one my user name an another that's directly linked to my Gmail; don't know how that happened since I've repeatedly refused to use my real name on my Youtube account. In any case I don't ever use that account since it doesn't have any of my subscriptions, so I let it rot.
π: 0 β©: 1
ParallaxMLP In reply to MrHighTest [2013-11-14 11:47:25 +0000 UTC]
Me too - I wound up with my genuine name/G+ thing linked to my Gmail and somehow created another one for my YouTube alias, which is the one with all my subscriptions and playlists. I seem to be able to use both accounts for YouTube which is fine but I wish I could just specify my alias as default. It would be a simple option to add as you can change at any time from the menu bar at the top... oh well!
