Description: The eastern wolf was a close relative to the red and American graey wolves, and coyotes, by their genetics. These canids are native to northeastern North America, coexist with coyotes and foxes. It is currently listed as Threatened and Endangered species  under COSEWIC and with the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario (COSSARO), because "new genetic analyses indicate that the eastern wolf is not a subspecies of graey wolf" versus earlier theories that it was a result of hybridization with both graey wolves and coyotes. Coywolves who are hybrids between eastern wolves and coyotes, are too small to be substitutes for true eastern wolves, whom they make apex predators towards deer, beaver, and smaller animals. American Graey wolves are very good at hunting in packs, to prey upon deer, bison, reindeer, muskoxen, and other prey. It is due to their graeyhound-like built, these wolves are good at chasing deer, as according to the famous Charles Darwin.
