Description: Rivaled against the wolverine and the sea otter for being the biggest members of the mustelid family, the giant otter is the largest mustelid by length, which makes it one of the 2 largest otters. The giant otter is native to north-central South America, where they lived in family groups who has no natural predators. However the predators of the giant otters of all ages are large caimans and alligators, while the predators of the young otters are pumas, jaguars, and anacondas. Their genus name Pteronura comes from their tails shaped like wings, which their tails allow the otter to swim faster. The family groups can rest, play, fish, and travel together. Younger pups can be taken care by both their parents and their older siblings, when it comes to have similar ways to what humans do for their family members. Besides making the giant otter being listed as the Endangered Species, they got problems, like habitat loss, poaching, and the use of mercury and other toxins for illegal gold mining, makes the giant otter being rare. They can rival against the jaguar, anaconda, and the black caiman alligator for being alpha predators of the Amazon River. Even the giant otter is more aquatic than most other otters.
