Description: The largest and the most famous known hyenas, lived on most parts of Africa(except for the deep jungles), as they loved to lived open dried grasslands, and even stoned up deserts. It is easily recognized as all hyenas looked like dogs, with short back legs, long arms, sloping backs from shoulder to tail-base, and slightly shorter snouts, but they are more closely related to cats than dogs. The most closest relatives to hyenas, are mongooses. It is easily distinguished from smaller hyenids, by their more grizzly bear-like built, big bellies, rounded hindquarters, round ears, and you know what else? Their fur coat is covered in polka-dot spots, which that spotted hyenas are the only members of the hyena family with spots. Their cries, are sounded like their laughter, which they are used for it when the hyena is under stress, or when they are excited. Spotted hyenas are Africa's 2nd largest carnivorous mammals ever known, after the lion, its archenemy. Rivaled against the jaguar, brown and grizzly bears, the spotted hyenas has the most strongest jaws in the animal kingdom, very strong the crack the rhino bones, than any other big cat, but not as stronger than that of great white sharks. Among primates(like chimps, gorillas, orang-e-tans, humans, etc.), tigers, black bears, dolphins, dogs(including border collies), and domestic pigs, they are among the most intelligent mammals, with cooperative problem-solving capabilities and complex social behavior with respect to group size. The society of the spotted hyenas are matriarchal, which means females are dominant to their packs, called "clans." Even low-ranking females dominate the highest ranking males of the clan, but they are dominated by the highest-ranking female. The baby hyenas are called, "cubs." In spotted hyenas, the cubs are not born blind, but they are born almost black, and had sharp teeth(similar to their adult counterparts), but unsure if they are born deaf? The cubs of their mother can fight each other to see who wants to drink their mom's milk. After months later, the cubs began to grow, and their black coat had been changed into their spots, to make their coat(besides their spots) more lighter, and earth-toned. All hyenas had dark faces and muzzles. But all spotted hyenas had varied in their coat colors, colored with sandy brown, ginger, graeyish brown, light graeyish brown, or yellowish graey. Undersides are lighter than their fur, and their tail-tufts are blacker as their spots(when they grew older, they remain even more blacker than their spots), but their manes are slightly redder than their base fur color. Their spots became brownish, and fades with age. Spotted hyenas are not only the ones that has spots, but they are the only hyenas that can hunt in packs, just like lions. They are also known for their strong animosity with lions, as 2 apex predators frequently clash each other over for food and territory, and often kill each other's cubs. Some people did make strong misconceptions, similar to coyotes(which they are actually very important parts of the ecosystem), that spotted hyenas are said to be hermaphroditic, ugly, dumb, cowardly, powerful, greedy, gluttonous, dangerous, stinky, scavenging dish-lickers. But in reality, spotted hyenas hunt more, than they scavenge, but lions steal their kill. That makes lions, are said to be scavengers. As these hyenas are popular, for example, they are featured as the minor or major characters who thinks those problems, and what they notice to the main characters, like the Laff'n Hyena from the cartoon, The Temperamental Lion(1939), the spotted/laughing hyena from the Disney cartoon of Goofy, Goofy in: African Diary(1945), this hyena from the animated movie, Walt Disney's Lady and the Tramp(1955), and the woozle-like hyena from the episode of Disney's New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, "A Piglet Could Be King," for example. Also they have been featured as villains who worked with their masters(except for Jasiri and her family, from the TV series, The Lion Guard,(2015-present) which not all spotted hyenas are villains, like Janja, Chungu, Cheezi, Nne, and Tano. But what I tell ya, FEMALES DOMINATE THE MALES!!! And about Tabaqui, he's still portrayed as a jackal. This series' spotted hyenas did looked like their striped counterparts.) who worked with the tiger Shere Khan, from the Mondo TV series, based on the Jungle Book: Shounen Mowgli and Simba the King Lion, Winner and the Golden Child, last but not least, Tabaqui(in this movie, he's portrayed as a jackal, but his species accurately referred as a hyena), whom he's the last of India's spotted hyenas(even the creator of this movie, misplaced spotted hyenas in India), who worked with Shere Khan the tiger, from the live-action Disney movie, the Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story(1998). They also used spotted hyenas as minor villains, like Messina in her hyena form, from the underrated movie Fred as F.R.O.7(1992), the hyenas(even though they looked like Bud/Lou from The Batman(2003-2008). They DON'T SOUND LIKE COYOTES AND DOGS, DESPITE BEING PARTS OF THE CAT FAMILY!!!!!) from Disney animated series, The Legend of Tarzan(2001-2003), and Khalia and the hyenas(This upsets some of you, literally, because this movie did misplace the spotted hyenas in India, but... like I said, FEMALE SPOTTED HYENAS RULED THE CLAN, BUT THEY SHOULD NOT SOUND AND/OR ACT LIKE DOGS! And its because it's kinda like that of The Lion King), from the CGI animated movie that takes place in India, Delhi Safari, for example. But they use these hyenas as good guys, like that of Hardy Har-Har from the Hanna Barbera cartoons, from the episode of Super Snooper and Blabber, the Laughing Guess(1960's), to Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har-Har(1960's), and even Jasiri and her family from the TV Series, the Lion Guard(2015-present), etc. In the earlier times, from Pliocene to Pleistocene, the spotted hyenas lived from India to Europe, Russia, and to Africa, which they can compete against cave bears, graey wolves, saber-toothed cabbits, tigers, and humans. Nowadays to present day, that Spotted hyenas survived in Africa.
