Common Name Synonyms: Water Otter
Scientific Name: Euhydra lutris
Size: 27.5-32.7cm in the shoulders, 55-130cm from snout to tail-base + 15-35cm long tail = 70-165cm from snout to tail
Classification: Caniform
Habitat: Arctic, Beaches
Diet: Piscivorous; diet consisted of fish, mussels, clams, urchins, snails, crabs, octopuses
Description: Not only that it is the heaviest mustelids, who rivaled against the wolverine, but it is the smallest marine mammals. Unlike most marine mammals, sea otters had no blubber, due to their dense and thick fur coats, which it'll keep the otters warm and cozy in the cold times, and even in cold waters. As we ban the sea-otter hunting, thanks for the help of the marine conservation programs, while that sea otters are the endangered species, they are native to the northern Pacific coasts, as they are keystone predators that can control sea urchin populations, which otherwise they can damage the kelp forest ecosystems. We do see these sea otters in aquariums, zoos, marine parks, movies, anime, cartoons, and even internet videos. One of the sea otters in Vancouver Aquarium, since it is filmed previously in five years, that they are YouTube's most popular animals at the time. That might be an example why captive sea otters are so famous in the aquariums. Predators of the sea otters, besides humans who hunt them for their fur, are killer whales, sharks, sea lions, bears, coyotes, and eagles.
