Description
This is probably my personal favorite out of my Doctor Who pieces. I finally got to work Bessie into a pic (the hill-hopping style I drew it in owes a big debt to Alex Toth). And you can barely glimpse Harry Sullivan at the wheel too, which makes me smile. If you look very closely at the K-1's foot, you can see what's left of that unfortunate UNIT soldier that got in his way.Related content

excellent work! this'd make a great book cover. oh, that poor soldier, eek. I suddenly wonder where he parks Bessie when he's offworld.

Ha! Thanks- I know what ya mean. I actually run a Doctor Who-themed art group that's founded on that notion: [link] I love DA, but it can be daunting finding the "good stuff" sometimes...

My god, this is the first episode of Doctor Who I ever saw. I'd just turned on the TV and here's a guy getting crushed by a giant silver, cardboard foot. I kept watching from there on out.

Fantastic !
i really like the rolled over camera shot ... and style of story book you drawn ...
colors are seem realistic but cartoon style turns it to demure
Most of all i like details and More than most is "PERSON THAT TREADED BY ROBOTS FOOT AND STICKED UNDER THAT !!!"

This was the first episode of doctor who I ever saw at the tender age of five...(my grandmother was watching reruns or something, I'm only 18) and I remember thinking:
1)What the heck is this? Where are my cartoons?
2)Oh my gosh, wh is there a giant robot?
3) Who is that? His smile is scary...
4) I NEED that scarf
And I totally forgot about it til a few weeks back while going through some old doctor who.
This is brilliant. FanTASTic, really.

I don`t realy like the oldschool look of the robot, but that`s just my own taste, don`t worry.
I realy love the composition+perspective of the whole image and the style of trees, street, colours, motion, very cool thing!!

Mate i never get bored of viewing this.
Theres a real Target nostalgia about it. And the composition is just right with the nice balance of sky trading off with the main robot.

Thanks, man! Somehow, I think I'm never gonna top this pic (as far as my Who fan art goes). Ironic, since it was one of the fastest "big" pics I've ever done.

Its funny when that happens. And to be honest mate you produce your best work when you dont think about it too much. My earlier work has less detail but i think are carried off better than my later work. For instance if i was to redo the ABBA cover now i reckon i'd lose the flow, i'd probably overthink it and over detail it.

Totally. I'm working on a comic project now that's in a radically different style than my usual stuff- way simpler and "cleaner" looking- almost manga-ish. I'm knocking out pages a lot faster w/ it, and the odd thing is that I think it's just as effective as the old style (maybe even better- the story feels more focused w/out extra detail cluttering it up). Still, there are times I wanna whip out the crazy micro-detail stuff too. I guess the trick is knowing when you need to apply that amount of work and when you don't.

Wonderfully drawn, with that unmistakable sense of Doctor Who adventure and whimsey (And a bit of black humor for good measure, haha)
I was watching this episode the other week; these days the robot-vision and retro claw-hands are more hillarious than scary

Thanks- a lot of thought went into that actually! I was tempted to have him leaning forward slightly to give him some forward movement, but I decided if he was even he'd somehow look more robotic and "titanic" (for lack of a better word).

Thanks for allowing and contributing this piece for the Kaijuden galleries; as a fan of both Doctor Who (old and new), and of giant monster movies (Japanese and otherwise), "Robot" combined the best of both worlds, especially with its awesome title character. A lot of people always make fun of the Robot's clunky suit and the "King Kong" climax.
But that's what made Doctor Who so unique that it often went for the fantasy and spectacle where other television shows (outside Japan's 1970's 'tokusatsu' boom) would dare not try. And this stays true even today...no matter how ludicrous one thought the Cyber King was.
The detail and execution with this illustration is also fantastic, and I love the almost unnoticeable bit of dark humor beneath the Robot's foot.
