Description I just recently bought a used ipad pro and it was AMAZING getting to draw these while sitting in the middle of an amusement park as opposed to being enslaved in front of a hot cintiq. Hoping to get alot more sketches on here now that I have a quick and easy digital sketchbookΒ  Β
Anyway, here's the BIRBS! I've sort of fallen in love with wingull since they're literally all over hoenn. I'd actually uploaded some character designs done on the species previously (a couple of which are actually hybrids ) I haven't drawn the tailow line too much, but i'm SUPER happy with how the rockhoppers turned out. Because they thrive in dusty mountainous regions, I was concerned about the browns needed actually being a detriment to their recognition as tailow/swellow (similar to the beautifly and dustox) but the bits of swellow common's blue introduced really make it pop in my opinion. These little blurbs are becoming more and more like pokedex entries lol Also hybrids! Normally when pokemon from the same egg group breed, the babies will take on the mother's species completely. But every now and then there's a specific combination that leads to the babies still remaining the mother's species, but also taking on some of the father's species characteristics. When they appear enough, they're classified as their own hybrid branch.
------------------------------------------------
Now for the spheel! Although the versions of pokemon that we know from the game are the most common forms in Leftovers, numerous (but not all) lines have variations. Whether for environmental reasons or regulatory. We've already seen a couple variations in comic so far, but I hope to go more into these in the future.

As for now, I hope you enjoy the little bit of worldbuilding here!

Inhumane, ahehehe. Considering they make the poor Pokemon fight like, though I suppose this form of breeding is parallel to breeding in real life, forcing animals to have specific, debilitating features to achieve a specified form or appearance.

Edit/p.s, Don't take me wrong, I do like this piece and do not mean to come off as harsh.

Yeah, right?? It's funny how some things are okay and others aren't haha.

And don't worry no offense taken or anything, you're just out here asking the real questions Β

'Don't let dogs fight in rings', 'Let's breed this dog until it's built like a brick to look cute and fight bulls, never mind it can't breed, its teeth destroy its mouth and has stumpy legs', 'This dog is adorable, only it and its sister has *insert physical trait*, must breed them to propagate said trait'. It's so sad, cruel and destructive, a lot of breeds are developed for reasons beyond beauty or combat.

Such as the Australian Cattledog/Blue Heeler (collie's bred with native Dingo's to make a better working dog for herding animals). Currently, the native Dingo population is only pure in select locations in Australia to keep the breed alive without crossbreeding, and the most isolated location, there is a strict rule to not allow dogs there (it is an island off the coast).

Actually it's really funny that you bring up dogs in context to cross breeding and the unfortunate circumstances surrounding that. At my job, I was tasked with a dog-based project where I had to draw multiple species, and I ended up falling down this rabbit hole of extinct breeds and cross "contaminations". All that research is actually what led to the tidbit about the Hybrid line being unable to breed and thus being classified as inhumane. Because i'd seen so many of man's mistakes with breeding dogs in particular in the past. Some that wouldn't last past 1 or 2 generations. The most unfortunate one I came across was the poor, poor Turnspit dog. Bred to work in a hot kitchen all day turning meat on a spit for humans, who didn't want to work that hard to eat. Really makes you think, honestly. For instance in the context of pokemon, how weird is it that a TRAINER is called amazing or legendary when it's their pokemon who do all the fighting lol

Ohh, I remember hearing about the Turnspit dog, it is such an extreme to how animals are bred to 'better' Human's lives. Such as Clydesdale or Sheepdogs. I recall somewhere that someone was breeding bulldogs to have longer legs, larger jaws to accommodate their teeth and breathing over generations to help the breed.

Oh my yes, the amazing or legendary trainers. I suppose it could be how they train the pokemon how to act or train their bodies. But yes, it is so awful and selfish to have trainers take so much credit for the Pokemon's ability.

THE BIRBS, I love their variations the sleeker normal Tailow line vs the Rockhopper and wingull being the sky "pests" more like sky's prize! They're all so good
The hybrid line seems vaguely familiar is Peeko part of them?Β

Thanks! And Sky's Prize. I love it! But try telling that to the people of hoenn hehehehe

And good eye~ Peeko isn't actually a variant, but there were variants in this dump here , and this dump is where peeko's new design first debuted way back when Β Β

Alot of these pokemon I haven't drawn before either, so it's honestly a surprise to me to see how they turn out. Glad you're enjoying them so far!
