Description
For those of you who don't know what 50 Shades is, Google it. It was once a Twilight fanfiction and the characters are like Edward and Bella to an extent, only the writing's even worse.Could have worded this stamp nicer, but it's seriously talked about to the point it's nearly worse than the Twilight chatter.
Seriously, people just shut up about it. It's not that good or even accurate, decent, or worth reading. It's inaccurate, depicts bdsm as some sort of Stolkholm Syndrome type of thing, uses words that don't fit in, make sense, or contadict each other, and definetly not worthy to be a "relationship fixer" for maried females.
Want proof of how many mistakes it has, here are excerpts that have the errors highlighted: [link]
"Worst depiction of bdsm. I have friends in that, I have a good idea how bdsm would work and being forced into a "deal" and tortured sexually. . . let alone when you're clearly a child mentally if you always go "he touched me there", "Oh, yes, go there" or something else where "there" replaces the vagina. This book acts like it's trying to be innocent at times yet for lord sake it's cover to cover hardcore porn with occasional weird conversations where she is unable to talk of anything they do and follow his rules.
Basically it's just a train wreck that doesn't spice up people's sex lives- contrary to all the woman's book clubs and news reports- it teaches people how to go borderline Stockholm syndrome/rapist/stalker/kidnapper. The whole relationship is based on a woman being bound and treated like furniture.
Rather annoyed that people praise this thing for being so enlightening into what women want from men and being dubbed a "guide" on it in some cases.
In this day and age we should be comfortable after 5, 10, 20 years of marriage/relationship to actually be able to ask for a bit of a change. Instead it took a book that misrepresents stuff and attempted to be edgy just to get more attention to educate us when it can't even use most vocabulary words right? I feel insulted to be a female, to know women are "finally" getting the long awaited secret desires because they couldn't trust a man to maybe drop hints or suggest small changes?
It's not even that I dislike bdsm or anything, I am fine with by far worse things than what is done in this book. It's that the way that the fictional woman is treated by the fictional male is actually taken seriously and reenacted in real life. The concept that people are reading it and thinking "this is what they've always wanted? Oh, I can do all that and worse." and then people get hurt. Like idiots. Fiction should not be reenacted, not unless they know what they're even doing."
"The Fifty Shades trilogy was developed from a Twilight fan fiction originally titled Master of the Universe and published episodically on fan-fiction websites under the pen name "Snowqueens Icedragon". The piece featured characters named after Stephenie Meyer's characters in Twilight, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. After comments concerning the sexual nature of the material, James removed the story from the fan-fiction websites and published it on her own website," ~ Wikipedia
If you like to count how many times she bites her lips, how the characters are rip offs, how fake the bdsm scenes are(I would know what real ones are like through some of my friends), how the writer can't figure out how a hymen works, and best of all, how they fail to spell there right, it's 'okay'.
Most like Twilight, Vampires, and find Edward Cullen hot. Plus spank material will draw most everyone in to some extent.
But in all honesty how did this outsell Harry Potter?! I'm not even a big Harry Potter yet I'm still shocked.

You have a right to your opinion, just like I do, we may not agree but that shouldn't mean we need to fight over things. Friendly debates are alright though.

This shit outsold Harry Potter??
...I'm getting me and all my Potterhead friends to by all seven of the HP books seven times. I don't care if it doesn't help, real literature needs to beat this porn.

50 shades of grey is one of the few things that makes me look at my own writing and think 'damn this is good!'

"sea of change"? Should be "winds of change". She needs to work on her idioms.

Agreed, most definitely agreed. None of my friends could believe this train wreck of badly used words and illiterate random babbles outsold Harry Potter, that's a huge slap to the face for writers who do their research and work hard.

Yeah, seeing as I am one attempting to finish something to get published, I can relate. I see things like Twiligh and Fifty Shades of Grey on the shelves and my blood just boils. Its disgusting that shit can sell, but hard work won't.

You spoke my mind completely! That's exactly how I feel. It's drained my love to write so much because nowadays being shit at something makes you get more readers and fans than being hard-working and putting effort into each page. I hope to have things oneday published as well, but at this rate, I dunno anymore.
