Description Update: I've added the Northern section of the route. But this isn't the last part of the route, it'll go off to the west for a bit as well. I'm aware of the tile errors. My favourite part of this route is actually the little platform you bike over. Silly, I know xD

I'm working on PokΓ©mon XENOTIME again, and here's a new route for it. This leads off from Brimstone Way, and eventually gets all the way toward Forthold City. I took inspiration from Phyromatical for this map, as he's one of my favourite mappers right now. I may update it with the northern section at some point.Β

What do you think?

Very Nice Joe. Such a tiny map and yet the impact that i leaves is quite high.

The layout of the trees is very nice and natural. You have also used a large veriety of trees in here.

Everything down to the small amount of little details like mushrooms and flowers and the intermitant tall grass add a very nice unkept and natural feel to the whole thing.

The water breakes up the otherwise very green map nicely. However the shape of the river is very straight and does not blend into the otherwise natural layout of the map. I would also recomend adding a few more water details, as again it does not compliment the rest of the map very well.

I do however look foreword to seeing more of the Xenotime maps in this style. I love your maps anyway Joe but this new direction for mapping really is a great step in the right direction.

Thanks so much for the critique!

That's what I was really aiming for with this map; to make everything look interesting. In most of my other maps the tree are just straight lines with little variety, which I wanted this to be the opposite of.Β

I completely understand what you mean with the water, it's the part of the map that I've focused least on. I'll have a go at adding some extra details and making it less linear. I considered making it transparent with underwater details like PokΓ©mon swimming, if you think that would look good?

I'm glad you like it. I'm going to be redoing XENOTIME's routes in this style as they're the only part of the game I'm not completely happy with. I commissioned most of them from different people so there's definitely a lot of room for improvement.Β

Thanks again!

It's nice to see forest maps with great ambience like this. However to improve you should switch up the saturation of the trees (like you did with the orange trees). The base of the orange trees should also match what type of ground they're on, in this case green, otherwise they clash with the ground.

The use of different size trees is very good, and the grass tiles are very pretty. Like I said before try to change the trees colours so the forest doesn't blend in with the ground! hehe

Overall this is a really pretty map and I love the array of overworld sprites as well as other fauna like mushrooms.

Great map!

Thank you very much for the critique! I don't get many of these.

I completely agree on the colours of the bases. I did mean to change them to match the grass but then completely forgot about it. I've fixed that now. I agree on the trees as well, they are too similar to the ground. Would something like the colours of the trees on this map be good?Β Forthold City -a new beginning-

With this map I really wanted to make everything look as interesting as possible, with loads of little things like the PokΓ©mon and different tiles. It takes ages so I'm glad you like it!

Thanks again!

Yeah they're much better~

I would also recommend using darker grass tiles to create a difference too.

No worries~ can't wait to see what you make next.

All that's missing is a shadow below that long plank; otherwise it looks great!
