Description CREDITS:
Done with the tutorial by Anemonesque [link]
Composition is inspired from a drawing by Lile [link] her version is a slightly slashy piece with Harry in the foreground, though. I just cannot find the drawing anymore, but it's one of my favourite HP fanarts, and I had to do something similar….

… although I think it's rather obvious that I'm an anime artist, since I've spent much too much time with some details which this style doesn't require. But I don't really mind that I've worked out Harry's expression. He's looking like an avenging angel, ready to punish Malfoy for… ignoring him?

* * *

"Where're you going?" Harry demanded.
"Yeah, I'm really going to tell you, because it's your business, Potter," sneered Malfoy. "You'd better hurry up, they'll be waiting for 'the Chosen Captain'—'the Boy Who Scored'—whatever they call you these days."
[…]Malfoy pushed past Harry […], turning the corner and vanishing from view.
Harry stood rooted on the spot and watched them disappear. This was infuriating; he was already cutting it fine to get to the match on time and yet there was Malfoy, skulking off while the rest of the school was absent: Harry's best chance yet of discovering what Malfoy was up to. The silent seconds trickled past, and Harry remained where he was, frozen, gazing at the place where Malfoy had vanished. ...
--HBP, Elf Tails

Malfoy's actually pretty cool—and not just in this scene! Whenever Harry blocks his way, he just walks away—even when some situations show, that this costs his whole willpower. Actually, it's the contrary from all five previous books in which it was MALFOY who crossed Harry's path and Harry… well, quite enjoyed these little distractions…

I completely agree with Ron that Harry's obsessed with Malfoy, because really, a captain shouldn't think about skipping a Quidditch match because he wants to discover what his school enemy is up to… with two girlfriends in an empty castle….. But our hero doesn't just think about this, he has a great inner fight… and finally, when his team already starts to worry about his whereabouts, he manages to choose the right thing over… the utterly crazy one?

Whenever I read this scene, I just have to laugh. But on an third look, Harry's obsession is really scary and from Malfoy's POV the whole year is very angsty. Here he's probably thinking something like… "If you only knew, that I don't want all this... that I would give everything to worry just about a Quidditch match…"—for a split second… before he manages to deny the truth again, succeeds into deluding himself into whatever…

Draco: help me...

I love this so much~! Draco looks so torn. Like he wants to throw him self at Harry's feet and beg for help,( or into Harry's arms) or throw him self off a tower.
Really, really nice.

I'm personally a huge H/D fan myself (:
Love this, even if it is just a friendship fic.
Was reading the comments and you're right, there's not many H/D friendship fics at all. I suppose it is easier writing them falling for each other than becoming friends.

I mean, I feel like they'd have to crawl into bed before becoming friends. They're both way too stuborn to give into each other in terms of friendship, but lust is something you can't deny so easily.

Again, fantastic fic, but the link you referenced from isn't working.

Personally, I've that theory that love is much easier to write than friendship: You can count the books that are about friendship, but there are myriads of romance novels ... even though, actually, I can count the romances I like on my two hands. Most romances are the totally clichéd fantasies of miserable authors.

Anyway, the link didn't refer to a fic, but to an artist called Lile. She has or had an account on LJ, but I cannot find her anymore. Her paintings are sketchy, impressionistic illustrations that I admire a lot.

It is much easier to write about love, and it definetely tends to be the fantasies of the authors. But ah, it's one way to pour out your frustrations and fantasies and at least it's entertaining someone else. Nearly any friendship story blossoms into love, and the clicheness of it all is neck-high. However, nearly everyone these days would be dissapointed if it were friendship only.

And okay, she sounds really good (:.

Yeah, that's the only good thing about this book: It has inspired some people to great fanfics. Sometimes I wish, that JKR would have taken notes from them.... but no, she had to take notes from the bible instead, forgetting, that Jesus already died for the humans and there is no point that Harry has to do the same. Actually, it seems not decent to write something like that.

Extra good job on Malfoy's expression also....it makes me want to go cheer him up so bad! And Harry...I dunno he's just ready to light Malfoy on fire.

Draco and Harry BELONG together... Ginny should die, and/or Hermione should leave Ron for Draco.

Harry is SO obsessed with Draco. Which SO leads people like my friends and I to write SLASH!!!

Oh yes, Snape/Bella is obvious as well... but don't forget the bickering between Harry and Narcissa in Madame Malkins Shop--especially, because Harry never forgets to inform us readers, that in his opinion Narcissa is technically very good looking

Ah, yes, blonde hair, blue eyes, yadda yadda yadda-- I personally do not approve of ANY coupling with Harry, unless the art/storyline is fabulous. I am a hard person to please in matters of Harry Potter. In fact, one of my friends likes this dude, but I try not to let her go out with anyone that doesn't know that Dan Radcliffe plays Harry. XD.

But... don't take me too serious, OK? I read too often the pairings which appears in LJ-fics = summaries... I hardly read the fics though. I'm just interested in fandom's tendancies aka weirdness.

Fandom is for fun.

Mostly.

When it comes down to canon, I'm very, very hard to please as well, especially because HBP completely convinced me from JKR's talent. (In a completely other fashion than the majority of fandom, though.) Therefore, my requirements for Book 7 are high, very high, much higher than for any other book before...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlawedFigurine In reply to periwinkle-blue [2006-12-08 01:43:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, fics are awesome... I read pretty much anything, unless the grammar/spelling is artocious, as is ((sadly)) often the case.

Fandom rox my sox. XD

I completely agree. Book 7 has to be the best in the series to keep up with the story's plotline and JKR's current style of writing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

periwinkle-blue In reply to FlawedFigurine [2006-12-08 13:07:41 +0000 UTC]

It may be an advantage, that English is NOT my first language... there is a certain amont of grammar/spelling mistakes I never notice... but OK, that doesn't include the artocious ones! Even if I don't notice all mistakes, I can always say if the the language is distinguished or not.

For me it's everything about the characters. They have to be very IC and act believable. That's nothing to do with the plot though; they are alowed to do anything they'd never do in canon--I even like it better that way, because that what'll happen in book 7 I prefer to read from JKR. But then, that what *some* people see as realistic Book 7 plot is usually exactly that what I really can't imagine JKR to write: OBHF going Super Mario: 1 points for every dead DE and an extra life pro destroyed Horcrux: 90% of the story is about the veeeeeeeery complicated love life of OBHF, though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlawedFigurine In reply to periwinkle-blue [2006-12-09 02:22:06 +0000 UTC]

What's your first language? O.o

I notice almost all spelling mistakes, but I don't really pay them any mind, unless they really really suck.

Yeah, the characters have to be believable and IC for me, too. Stuff that goes beyond the plotline is great-- in one fic that my friend Fay wrote, she did a Neville/Draco.

...Yeah. Odd.

Thx

Well... *gets into storytime mode* *adjusts glasses*

Before I liked slash and whatnot, I was a staunch Ron/Hermione supporter. My friends Faye [link] , Jamie, and Mary Caite are utter Draco/Hermione supporters. So I casually mentioned that Draco should die one day, and they got all obsessiveish. So after class, they dragged me to Jamie's house, tied me to a chair, and made me watch DHr videos on YouTube.

...not a pretty sight. I was eating Yorks (peppermint patties XD), and DYING.

However, the treatment had its desired effect. I now like DHr.

German & French... I'm Swiss.

I know what you mean with the spelling mistakes, though. They always interrupt the flow of reading (Wait! ... there is an s mis-ing!) and when there are too many of them, it's really irritating...

When it comes down to slash, I'm really undecided... I don't like it but hardly read anything else... they're just the better stories!

Swiss people are cool. XD

I, unfortunately, am a born American, which is the country of hot dogs floating in scummy water for days on end, but they are made out of some unknown substance that keeps them tasting good. O.o

Aah, grammar. It keeps me up at night, tossing and turning, thinking, "Why did that person spell 'personification' like 'persnifferpot'?? It doesn't even look the same!!!"

...Well, not really, but it does bug me. You put it in words so well, it 'interrupts the flow of the reading'. Works. XD

Slash slash slash slash... It's hard to go back once you've gotten hooked.

periwinkle-blue In reply to FlawedFigurine [2006-12-22 19:16:41 +0000 UTC]

When I started to read slash after HBP... (there is just a bit too much stuff between the lines. I though "OK, JKR, you clearly play around with that, hence I'm going to read slash!")... back then, I thought that I might learn to like slash... but it never happened. I'm right now reading a great H/D fic (In the Shadow of His Wings), great plot and characterization and everything, but still... I just would prefer if Harry and Draco weren't lovers. (OK, the scenes in which (a great characterized!) Ron tries to question Draco under Veritaserum and Draco avoids the relevant question by beeing very sincere about "Harry's lovelife" are simply hillarious XD)

No, my friend quixotic-hope on Fanfiction.net writes the best --dare I say it?-- Harry/Snape.

Yes, that's what I said-- Harry Potter x Severus Snape.

And believe it or not, it's quite enjoyable...

I lurk around a lot on LJ... and therefore Harry/Snape cannot shock me... actually, I've got the feeling, that it's rather classic *lol*

I don't read this ship, because I mind a bit teacher/student relationships and especially because I don't like to think about Snape in an erotical way. But I don't see my personal preferences as general rules--other than too many people It's live and let live, and I don't mind people who write/read or like this ship. After all, they probably don't like MY ships

Plus, I like Slashers... without them, I would have lost my love for HP after HBP came out......

Did you find the fic? I can give you the link, if you want... I'm not finished with the reading, but the first 15 chapters are really great

I would definitely appreciate that link... *sweatdrop*

Live and let live is always a good rule to go by-- especially if you've seen what my friends do to people who don't approve of their ships. *shudders* I'll never make THAT mistake again.

Slash is what keeps the HP world interesting.
