What are the advantages between a full moon and a half moon clip for revolvers?

I dunno, but I assume half moon clips are less bulky than full moon clips?

They look like they load less ammo too, which is a disadvantage considering that revolvers don't have that many shots to begin with. Maybe it's for miniature concealed revolvers or something.

Nah, I think you just use 2 half moon clips on one revolver.

To save me a trip to wikipedia, what is the purpose of the rims and their variations?

The rim mainly serves to hook on to a part of the gun (extractor) to eject the shell)
Rimmed cartridges use the rim to hold the cartridge in the chamber. Rimless ones are best for smooth feeding from the magazine (for semi-automatics). They're held in the chamber by the sides of the shell casing. Rebated rims seem to be made for large calibers. I think they make for cheap and easy production.
