I learned the weaver stance on purpose. I learned the grip from a kind rangemaster. I never knew that it was called the weaver grip until this mini tutorial. Cool stuff here. Thanks!

Good point the last. Was taught in my police training that any confrontation over open ground is exponentially more dangerous at less than 7 meters.

Great tutorial! As someone who's never seen, much less used, a real gun and yet is planning a police procedural comic series, this is a great little bundle of info!

the first example for NO wouldn't work with certain newer guns because they have an automatic safety that makes it unable to fire if the muzzle is touching something/being obstructed
which is prolly why it's in the NO section anyway, but yeah

Interesting. I didn't know that. Though that may be a different story with a long gun.
Regardless, it's just not a smart idea in general to point a gun that close. It's why professionals stand about 5 feet away at all times.

It's prolly only for handguns, and yeah-not a good idea to be that close xD

Very useful. Hopefully should help create more accurate comics, I know I'll be referencing this a lot. D'you think there's a way you could make one for knife throwing- I've been having trouble finding the accurate methods.

I'm pretty sure there's youtube videos for knife throwing.
Also, I have a shitload more gun tutorials in my gallery for you to check out.

Dude! I'm so happy someone knows how to draw the correct way to hold em. I twitch every time I watch films and they hold the gun wrong.
Good job!

Thanks! So do I! And when people draw like they've never even seen an action movie in their life too...
Y'know, like when people draw their character's thumbs covering the hammer on a SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUN. Sure, great idea if you want your THUMB BROKEN BY THE RECOILING SLIDE.
So for that reason, I also have a shitload of other gun tutorials in my 'process-tutorials' gallery. I think you're gonna need more than just this one to help people for your OCT.

So true! I do target shooting and home defense practices with 45s @_@ they kick like you wouldn't believe (personal preference is a heavy-ass revolver, glocks can go burn in hell)
Thank you for letting me know, I'll attack your tutorial gallery after class.

You know I hate almost every single "tutorial" because they never actually say anything useful despite hundreds of paragraphs of text. Or they start throwing in obscure mathematical or sociological shit in there to describe "The eyes are too small". Sometimes it isn't a tutorial as so much a bunch of doodles with an eventual finished piece with a "THERE YOU GO MAYBE YOU CAN DRAW LIKE ME SOMEDAY!"
However, this tutorial taught me how to hold a gun, truly the most important skill I need to ever know.

Every other gun tutorial sucks. Most of them are just handgun tutorials but they label em as "gun tutorial" anyway. And all they have are "draw this shape, then draw this shape...THEN DRAW THIS AND YOU'RE DONE HUHUHUHU DERPETTY DERP."
There are so much more to know and so many kinds of guns, which is why I have several tutorials of guns.
But yeah, thanks.

Crispyreaper In reply to PhiTuS [2010-05-26 00:41:04 +0000 UTC]
YA! Almost 21 man!
An Im not sure yet, still have to save up funds for it(Recent events ate up all my savings for my handgun, so yeah.... All I have right now is my .22 an a crapload of airsoft.)
Probably either going to go with a reliable 1911, or even a Glock. Also depends on what deals I can get. Though my step-dad is REALLY good at getting great deals on guns! He once got a Spas 12 for $400! Guy just really needed cash, an he happened to have the cash on hand!
Also, needless to say, that gun is a BEAST.
