Isosceles Stance AKA the 70's cop show stanceApparently named because the legs form an isosceles triangle shape. A wide stance which I guess has decent stability, although this isn't very good for mobility or forward/back balance. Overall, it's kinda awkward looking.
Weaver Stance
Named after the same guy who invented the Weaver grip. The legs are shoulder width apart and one foot is slightly behind the other. The standard two handed pistol stance. Cops use the same foot positioning for the "interview stance" in the case that they have to draw their gun or other equipment such as pepper spray or taser.
Modified Weaver Stance
The back leg is further behind the front leg and the shoulders are turned more. This stance is like getting ready to run forward or a fighting stance. Personally, if I was using a handgun, I'd be comfortable with this one.
One Handed Forward Stance
This one is a bit unusual, but I saw this in an instructional video. The non-shooting hand is on the shoulder to keep you facing squared off in that direction and for stability. Also note the slight lean with the gun's sights to accommodate.
One Handed Sideways Stance
The classic badass action movie pose. A decent stance that presents you as a smaller target. Although the problem with this is that the weak point of body armor happens to be the sides of your torso, which you are clearly showing towards your target.
Long Gun Stances
Same exact foot positioning as the weaver stance and the modified weaver stance.

The Center Axis Relock shooting system.Β It's an evolution in the way shooting with a pistol is done.Β If you've never seen it before, it's because it's not very widespread, and it's met with skepticism for obvious reasons, but I've tested it with my USP 45, it works.

Oh yeah, I heard about this.
I think before I seen it occasionally when people are entering doors pr sp,etjomg. And then I first heard the term when I watched a James Yeager video. He argued that stance in the end doesn't really matter, 'cause what's more important is shooting on the move and your body shifting accordingly (instead of just standing there, increasing your risk of getting shot) Proper grip still matters of course.

All correct my friend, I was just wondering if you'd add it to your tutorials, then again, if you haven't seen it in use, it's kinda hard to make a tutorial about it.Β The High Position in the CAR system is my favorite because until the shot is actually fired, there's no actual indication or silhouette to telegraph what you're doing to the human eye.

Also, it's the shooting system that Sam Fisher uses in the last two Splinter Cell games.Β The strange part for me was using the opposite eye to aim with in the extended position.Β All my years of shooting fought with me just to change that one little detail.
