Description
Yet again I'm working on something other than my Round 5 animation. That and I'm still tired of seeing people screw up guns. Including you guys who I'm pretty sure have watched my tutorials already, but apparently have forgotten every single thing I've told you.

Doesnβt the BAR has the gas tube under the barrel but uses normal magazines?

Yeah, it does. The M1 Garand and the M14 seem to work the same way. They have some mechanism that seems to wrap around the magazine area so that the gas tube drives it back. It seems like pretty much all modern assault rifles now have the gas tube on top though.
If you got the time, here's a video showing in detail about gas operation in the M14 and the AK:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeWlZpβ¦
P.S. this tutorial was made years ago before i knew better.

Hey no offense and thanks but I donβt need to see how it works I already know it, I draw guns myself and stepped about this tutorial while searching for a friend.
Itβs not that hard to understand guns in general.

Ah ok.
Sure, you and I can understand guns well, but that knowledge isn't second nature to everyone.
I've seen plenty of drawings, even from good artists, of characters that hold guns in illogical ways or boxy looking revolvers or guns with a strangely shaped magazines that don't belong there, etc.

Hah! Well screwing up and looking stupid is part of the learning process at least.
And thanks for faving my other tutorials!

Yeah, that's pretty much it.
Still, is it right? I mean my question.

Do they actually blow away the smoke after shooting?
π: 0 β©: 1
PhiTuS In reply to Enbi-to-Miruku [2012-08-29 12:30:36 +0000 UTC]
That's a hollywood thing. The smoke from (modern) firearms never stick around that long.
The only time that would ever happen would be if it's overheating, especially if it's a belt fed machine gun (for this reason, many machine guns have changeable barrels)

I didn't even know that guns were operated with gas. I learn something everyday! ty pheetoose

PhiTuS In reply to Lolip [2012-05-26 13:39:46 +0000 UTC]
Some are.
Some, like pistols and smgs, are operated on the recoil from the bullet explosion itself.

Yeah, I am gunignorant so I thought all guns were operated on the recoil from the bullet explodan.

I've never understood how someone can screw up a revolver. In my opinion, they're the easiest guns to draw.
Fantastic tutorial as always Phi.

Considering most of my guns don't expose the barrel or gas tube this doesn't really concern me but whatever. :3 Still a nice piece of info if I draw guns from real life. :3

Makes me wonder how your guns look like, since I don't see any guns in your gallery.

Does a shorter gas tube result in a higher firerate?

is there no end to the complexity that is a firearm??? I swear, even with all my searching, reading, youtubing, and chatting with certain people, I STILL end up learning something new about these darn contraptions!

Orly?
I didn't get that impression when looking at your AatR R4 entry or the FJ-2010 picture you drew.

Wazaga In reply to PhiTuS [2012-04-23 18:16:55 +0000 UTC]
the AatR was a rush job without real research. and I didn't actually start taking that seriously until AFTER I drew FJ (which made me double realize just how poor my actual knowledge is)
so now I'm seriously studying up on them when I can. and with "Last Daybreak" about to start, I'm gonna end up drawing a whole bunch of them, so I better get them right this time.

I see. I did spot a lotta things that were off in both those things.
Yeah I was wondering about that since DCgrasshopper is really into military shit like I am. You're currently collaborating with him for the official prologue comic, right?
π: 0 β©: 1
Wazaga In reply to PhiTuS [2012-04-23 18:36:09 +0000 UTC]
yup. he draws, I tone and sometimes shade. but I'm also doing a side comic as a point-of-view from my character's perspective on events. DC and I have been tossing ideas back and forth and working them out, so it should be interesting. but since he's already set up allot of military themes... I need to play catch-up and get in gear... so to speak...
plus, it's about time I stepped out of my comfort zone and grow up a little. if nothing else then for the sake of learning.

Depends, cause the AR-15 Is completely different with gas, with that handguard thingymajig.
π: 0 β©: 1
PhiTuS In reply to SiloZen [2012-04-23 00:02:21 +0000 UTC]
The AR-15's gas tube is above the barrel, just like any other assault rifle. Yes, the handguard covers it, but that doesn't make it "completely" different.
