i've never even attempted a pixel icon before but this tutorial helped me make something that turned out half-decent! it's super informative, thanks so much for taking the time to put this together!

Question. How do you shrink a pixel like you did at the bottom without majorly making them blurry? ;;

Whoever is going to read this comment prepare for a long and painful journey
SO. I've been making random pixels on and of for some time and every time I finished an icon, I wasn't happy with it. I knew SOMETHING was wrong with the icon, but I didn't know WHAT. Well, after looking at this tutorial I realized I was doing. . . literally everything wrong.Β
Firstly, I was just copying the exact colors from my regular sized digital pieces. The colors blended together and I didn't understand what was going wrong. It looked perfect in the digital image, so how come it didn't look right when I made it into a pixel? Well, I didn't understand that sometimes you have to change the colors a bit when making something as micro as a pixel. My fursona that I was trying to pixel had black markings on her. I didn't want the markings to look grey instead of black so I literally had the color for the markings like sliiiiightly lighter then the black outlining. Up close it looked fine, but when zooming out it didn't look good. After looking at this tutorial I realized that I was doing that wrong.Β
The second major thing I was messing up was shading. Before this tutorial I had NO idea what AA was and had never heard of it until now. Looked at the tutorial you linked in the description and that helped me understand what AA was. When I was shading I just used a darker color of the original, which I now realize was wrong. After doing what you said, making the colors actually more greenish ect., I realized that makes or breaks an icon. I also had no idea that you were supposed to shade the lines, I had never heard of that before.Β
SO after looking at this tutorial I realized I was doing a lot of things wrong. After several hours of crying blood while staring at my computer screen, I have created this miniature beast -----> Β
Its still not perfect of course but I'm pretty damn happy with the improvement and I feel pretty content with myself, and I have to say that I have you entirely to thank for that <: I was getting really discouraged and frustrated with the outcomes of my pixels before this, and I knew something was missing but didn't know what. But now you've shown me what I was missing and I just wanted to say that this tutorial was REALLY helpful to me. I just want to thank you so much for making this a thing. Sorry for the novel of a comment haha but I just really wanted to thank you because I was struggling a lot before seeing this LIFE SAVER.Β
I will worship this tutorial and make a shrine for it. A pixel shrine of course.Β

do you keep your canvas 100x100 the whole time until you're done?
or do you resize it to 50x50 right after you sketch it out?
