a) It might be a minor change that's hard to see. You may choose to decrease the number by a larger figure. Try it, it might help.
b) The square? If you're referring to the canvas, that's up to you. 20-50 px is what I usually work with.

There's nothing wrong, just a thing dA implimented with PNG's. If you wanna get rid of it, delete the deviation, re-save the file as a GIF, re-upload the deviation.

Use the one pixel brush (pencil tool). You need to do it manually and do it likes its shown.

Ah, when decreasing the V bar, do I go by two's each square I create over the other that I just made?

I had a prob or two with shading at first, but then I figured out a neat trick! I used the magic wand to capture the image, and then I did the box thing you were mentioning. Worked out fantastically.

What do you mean? Boxes around boxes? And, make sure your multiply layer is above your first one.
