Description About the MOC

Remi is something of a first for me, where an Old MOC became a totally new MOC. What started as a simple revamp of Sir Richard, morphed into me making this a wholly different and new character, meet Rèmi Basile. He went from being English, to being French in accent and name. After deciding on the 15th century fashion he just felt French to me, and that is what lead me to creating a whole new character instead of sticking with the old one. This in turn helped influence some of the design choices, like his accessories being magic powers instead of actual weapons or tools.

Rèmi is based on 15th Century men's fashion, he sports a white tunic, with dark blue tights and cape, with brown accessories.

After building Merchant Matteo I wanted to explore the same technique I used on him to build his robes again. I call this new technique "Techtonic fabric" and I have to say, I quite like it. The basic technique is wedge plates joined together with Mixel joints, and strengthend with more plating underneath.

Bio
Rèmi is a very different character from Matteo. He's quite timid and unsure of himself. He doesn't wield any kind of weapons, and unlike most plague doctors, he doesn't even carry a cane. Because his powers rely on quick uses of his hands, he prefers not to be encumbered by one.

Auramancy, and ward magic are Rèmi's specialty. His magic is entirely defensive in nature. Besides that, he creates wards, enchanted items that can discourage evil spirits from harming the owner. He prefers using coins, as they're easy to enchant and carry, the only downside is that his friends end up spending them at the market.

Initially, Rèmi's powers weren't very strong, even for defensive magic. He learned them more as a reaction to being scared all the time. After meeting Matteo and some mental training and encouragement, Rèmi grew more confident(although still frightened all the time) and he went from always relying on passive barrier spells which meant he couldn't move, to active barrier spells which he could control better and be mobile with.

Think of Rèmi as a support class character. His offense is zilch, but what he lacks in attack he makes up for in defense.

I'm still sure as hell that I did write about Doll Sitter's namesake, but I can't find where... e__e

The level of your new Plague Doctor builds has been top notch (Husk, Merchant Mattee), and Remi keeps following this trend. The blend of pieces, very organized color scheme, and incorporation of smooth pieces (mostly System) has raised the level of the appeal on your usually more Technic-Bionicle driven creations, yet still these can be still easily recognized as one of your creations.
But, to the point in this one: there is only one thing I don't quite like of Remi and is that the noble, aristocratic look that has as Sir Richard has been completely lost. The build has improved in every sense, but I'm going to miss the moustache and arrogant posing That said, this is a completely rework of both build of character, so it's not like Remi should look like that. So, talking about the build, it's basically perfect. Maybe the back of the head could be a bit smoother (not sure if it's supposed to be hair or a hood), but that's it. The new face looks amazing, I love the beak with "mouth", the hat and the glasses, very Steampunk-looking. Robes are great, love the skirt, the belt and how despise all the pieces used on the arms they still look smooth enough, like they have wrinkles more than different texture. You even worked on the back, despise having a cape covering it! Legs, while simple, have been smoothered enough and they work very nicely. Some curved places inside the Piraka legs could achieve a better result though. Feet are great, as shoes they do a perfect job. And the magic effects are a great addition <3 I'm surprised you didn't come up with some accesories, considering how much you like them

So! One of your best works to date, dear. Absolutely love this guy. <3 Hope you know you have set the bar pretty high for Cog, though xD

Doll Sitter's namesake? What?

I've definitely developed a style of MOCing for the Plague Docs. I try to incorporate more system into them since that allows for more details, which I want for these MOCs. But something like Furnace V.3 would be an example of my newer Technic/Bionicle driven MOCs. I've also stumbled into a style of building I call "Tectonic Cloth." It was first used on Merchant Matteo, but I used it again here. Its the process of using plates and wedges covered with tile or greebles with Mixel joints underneath to recreate the look of flowing cloth. Lego doesn't make too many large cloth elements in white, the few they do have are very expensive, so I had to try something different. I'm definitely gonna try using this style more. I quite like it.

I understand. These are very different colors. I wouldn't fret too much. I think I'll bring Sir Richard back in some other capacity at some point. I need to make him feel more distinctly British though. I'm also probably gonna give him an overly muscular "strong man" body type since he's a fistacuffs fighter. He should reflect that and be the group's "Heavy" so to speak.

Aww thanks Lianyu! It is a hood yes. That's why its brown all the way down to his neck. He's wearing a hood or balaclava underneath. Plague doctors typically cover every inch of skin in some form of cloth to protect themselves. So I try not to have any exposed skin. Which works for color blocking, its one thing I don't have to worry about and gives me more room to work with.

He's not exactly wearing a skirt. It's a Tunic. I based him on 15th century fashion and they wore tunics which were basically poofy long sleeved shirts with a kind of skirt, tied with a belt, and tights. So the legs are very sleek and smooth to reflect that he's wearing tights, where the arms and the torso are very textured to represent the poofiness of his tunic.

Remi's power effects are his accessories. I decided against a cane because my thinking is that Remi is a defensive character. He reacts at a moment's notice to threats, and he uses his hands. So he likes to not carry to many things at a time. So thinking about him like an action figure like I do with all of them, his accessories are a lot like some Super Hero Action Figures, where the moulded power effect is the accessory.

Thanks again Lianyu, you're so kind. I agree, Cog's redesign is definitely gonna be interesting. I've thought about ways to make him unique and interesting. Like you said, the bar is set pretty high.

The slender, four-armed, maid-like sister of Aigara is called Remi too.

Yeah, I actually wanted my first Great Beings to have proper clothing but I realized it would be very limiting, and it's actually way more fun to build proper suits and dresses using pieces. Heck, you know it, I've been trying to make a skirt out of everything for the past years But back to the topic, yes, you should use that style more often. Using System like that can get you to more clean, smooth MOCs while allowing to add them quite a bit of detail. CCBS doesn't allow the level of System in my opinion, BUT it can do a very nice job and allows for a better balance with playability and sturdiness, so it's good to balance those. ~~

Bald, with great moustache, naked torso. Liking that. "I'll beat the sickness out of you"

I know he was wearing a Tunic, but let's be honest, it's easier to say skirt than "lower part of the tunic". Also, well, gonna admit I don't know how it's called in English, but here we call it skirt anyways Didn't realize about the tights though, thanks for pointing it out!

Yeah, but dunno, some small potions or something like that would be neat. I mean, Mattee has a pocket watch, that's irrelevant with being an attacker or a defender, right? Not necessary, but a nice touch.

Nice use of colours and the skull grinder shoulder as a hat

Thanks. That's not really what that part is. Its a technic rim, but it gets used for a lot of things in Lego sets, but ay, I know what you mean.

Aye I myself was looking at one of the large dish pieces
(Light grey ones found on the toa crawler)
And I thought these would look great as hips

Looks quite good overall. The colors are well coordinated and the look is quite classy. My only little gripe is that the torso seems a little short in contrast with the legs. I don't know if that's due to the jacket though

Thanks Jesse.

I think its the tunic. The skirt really throws things off for viewers. His hips are underneath it all and if I take that off you can see his torso extends below all of that. People also did traditionally wear their belts and stuff much higher than we do now, that's another consideration.

Fashion is weird. "This thing goes here."
"why?"
"cause we all agree it does."
"Oh...Okay," *wears thing there*.

Thanks. Its one of my favorite things about this MOC. I guess all I did was take the concept of the powerups the minifigs are getting in sets now, and upscaled it.
