About The MOC
Matteo the Great Entropy was planned for later but Brickset is having a contest, so I wanted to enter it with my own creation from my own world instead of just building a Bionicle or whatever. Matteo has such a storied history that I felt it'd be a strong entry.
While The Great Entropy is the third build of Matteo, Chronologically, he occurs second after The Immortal Flame(Original Matteo), and before Merchant of Lemuria(Merchant Matteo). I have one more version planned with the dark blue mask, and then possibly a fifth version addition that will appear between The Immortal Flame and The Great Entropy. After that, I think I'll be done, and can focus on other interesting characters to include or create in this world.

Matteo, Merchant of Lemuria
Bio
After the death of his first wife, and solving her murder, Matteo was aimless and drifting through life. This is not a good state to be in when one lives forever. Matteo eventually found his way to sea and became a privateer. He took quite a liking to life at see, then it didn't take long for Matteo to use his own fortune from years of collecting items that'd become antiques to purchase his own ship and crew.
Matteo, now known as Captain Malice earned a name for himself on the high seas as a fierce but loyal captain to sail under. Pirates loved him, even celebrating him as a venerable king of pirates. But nations and merchants despised him. He became known as "The Great Entropy" due to his disruption of trade across continents. Unbeknownst to the merchants, Matteo had a plan. Lemuria was to become the trade capital in the world, and it did! By sacking ships in route to other ports, Lemuria became the best option for sailors and merchants to sell their goods.

I found a piratey sounding song, you may like for his repertoire www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBmFyR…
Damn son. I am out of practice when it comes to giving critiques, but I will try.
Even though everyone else has said it, I must do so as well. That coat is genius. How did you get it to go together?
The tri-pointed hat is also very clever, especially since I have seen how it goes together.
Personally I am not the largest fan of his true face, as I keep seeing a guy with spider fangs and some kind of whiskers and it wigs me out a bit. I do however love him with his silver mask on whole lot.
Those golden chains and the little Chinese dragon heads are a nice touch.

Thanks Simeon. The music isn't really what I'd use. The blending of metal and celtic sounds is cool, but I kinda have a "no modern sounds" policy. Though we can certainly have an interesting discussion on the discord server about that, because there's a couple of modern songs I'd love to apply to Matteo if they were redideded in more appropriate sounding songs.
The coat is really just four parts pinned down in certain spots, or held together with a substraight of Mixel joints. I use two of the Praetorian Guard cloth elements at the back, and the sails from the Final Flight of the Destiny's Bounty. The top of the first sail is pinned to Matteo's collar, then it hangs down with some mixel joints and the second sail is pinned down to the mixel joint assembly. Then the bottom hole for the second sail is also pinned in. I then covered it up with the lattice and that other gold and red ninjago plastic element. It doesn't do an amazing job at this, but I really struggled to get all of that to look good. Without the mixel joints, the bottom sail flapped about and rotated on its pivot point with the other sail, and looked silly. So I needed something to hold it all in place. The praetorian guard elements pin in to the mixel joints as well, but from the back. The bottom is layered over the top one to make it all feel more solid.
Yeah that's definitely Jesse's design, I just cleaned it up and filled it in a bit. Hats off to him for that triaxle desogn though.
You're the second person to say the whole spider fang thing. I needed him to have a goatee, and that's what worked. I figured the rounded part of the headlight holder plates could be his chin. Besides, maybe Matteo fashions his goatee with beard wax to look like spider fangs? I know it looks like that but I'm not sure what else I could do. His face was done later in the design process, and I had to fiddle with it a lot to get the whole thing to work, so at some point, I just wanted it done. Same goes with the coat liner that hids the mixel joints. I just wanted that shit done.
Thanks, what chinese dragon heads? The ones on his shoulders? Those are the viking fenrir heads. So they're technically wolves, not dragons. I supposed if I were to commission an artist to draw Pirate Matteo, they'd definitely look cool as dragons though.

Aaaaah, I finally got to see him in full glory! He's the basically the first MOC I followed its evolution since the very beginning, or at least the first one I can recall
I don't have too much to say that I haven't told you yet so I'll kinda do a recap. I absolutely adore the color blocking and clothing design. The legs are by far my favourite part, with those astonoshing boots including the golden chains and those nicely built trousers. I really like how they look when the legs are bent, usually this kind of heavy legs tend to don't look that good when bent. Chest looks nice though I must say you can't see too much of it with all the robes and the handkerchief (which I love btw), so I can't say too much of its construction. Liking the belts to connect the guns. Arms aren't nothing special since they have basically the same frame as Matteo The First (even if you can tell there are differences on its builds), but they do the work perfectly - and I absolutely adore the shoulder design using those Fenrir heads. Finally the head - it looks terrifying and the use of the Ninjago mandible is great, though I must say I'm still not a fan of such big underbite (yet in these pictures it's barely noticeable, so not particularly a problem). The sides look a bit too greebly for my liking, but since they have a reason (hair to match the uncovered face of Mattee) I don't want to complain about it. The tricorn is amazing, I absolutely love it.
Overall another magnificent entry to the Matteo & Friends collection of Plague Doctors, dear <3 The quality is really good and I absolutely adore it - though, I must say, I don't find it quite impressive as Merchant Mattee, despite it looking way cleaner. Maybe because of the opulence of the green one, hmmmm....

Thanks for the comment Lianyu. That'd be because Matteo is the MOC I've sustained the longest. Mototaur had a few iterations, but I eventually scrapped him, and Ryakk I've intentionally kept dated as a kind of time capsule of what my MOCing used to look like. Matteo's really the only MOC to grow and evolve along with me, and my building style.
That's a bit surprising that the legs are your favorite part. People have unanimously been commenting on his coat, which means the pants and the boots get overlooked. But thanks, I really like the boots to, they might be my favorite part of the new Matteo as well. The pants are okay, I built them to resemble more like an action figure, where there's the sculpting of the figure's clothes or maybe muscles, but it still has a joint in there for articulation. That was the idea with the lets, and more specifically the knees.
No, the chest did get kind of buried underneath the coat, kerchief, and his gun belt. Its nothing too extravagant, just some curved slopes stepped kind of like Mindight's midsection. I kept the chest fairly simple and smooth because I knew it was gonna be buried a bit.
When I originally planned Matteo, I wanted a really fierce mean pirate look. As I was working on him, I was becoming increasingly worried that he wasn't mean looking enough, and that he felt too regal instead of intimidating, but then I got the first shoulder armor piece on and that really did it for me. That with the mask was what I felt he needed to be so fierce looking. That and the extra jaw on the mask that you don't like I think are what really sells that "Really intimidating pirate captain" look. So it might not be for you, but I love the underbite jaw.
The tricorn is partly Monarth 's design. I can't take full credit for it. I took his basic frame, and cleaned it up a bit and made it a bit more stable than his was. I used rubber ++ connectors to get a second layer of triaxles connected in there so that stuff doesn't wiggle around too much. Then filled it in with some brown connectors and topped it with a 4x4 dish.
Yeah that's kinda the consensus I've gotten from the reactions to this MOC, people don't seem to have liked it as much as Merchant Matteo. Which makes me kinda sad, because I think this is a better MOC than that one. I had to compromise a lot on Merchant Matteo, and here I was able to get much more satisfactory results. So to see him not get as much feedback from other sites kinda bummed me out.
Oh well, just goes to show you can't predict how people will react to your MOCs, or what they'll end up liking or disliking. I've often been surprised at MOCs that I didn't thing were that great ended up getting a really positive reaction. Then MOCs I pour my soul into get a "meh, that's neat"

Hmm...Which song to use?...
"You are a Pirate" from "LazyTown" or "He's a Pirate" from "Pirates of the Caribbean"?

Probably "He's a Pirate" because the PotC" score was amazing! I actually made a playlist where I took ally "piratey" music into one playlist, and PotC along with Black Sails, Master and Commander, Assassin's creed black flag and a few other things all went into the playlist. I had plenty of pirate tunes to build to.

Cool! A version that you can see his face... his scary, bristly face.
Looks fantastic all around!

Thanks! I'm glad you like him.
I know right? I've wanted to build Matteo's face for a really long time now. And to be fair, this is pirate Matteo, you ever try to shave with a straight blade on a ship? Its not advised. I might at some point build a version of his head for regular Matteo. There he'd be cleaner looking and groomed. Here he's a bit of a wild man.
