This is a most epic on ryakk's part.
So I was working on mototaur, cause I ravaged him for two pistons to put on ryakk's knees. Ryakks knee surgery went well as you can see. anywho while I had mototaur in pieces I figured I'd have some fun and give all you guys a nice little laugh. Sorry I didn't set up the clean background. I didn't feel like messing with the blanket and tacks at 4:00 in the morning.

Also here's a chance to see angles of stuff not normally visible or something. Download for the full size so you can obsessively stare at the parts and possible figure out "how the hell I did that"

And then Mototaur was disassembled, but this time for good.

I definitely want to bring him back. But I wanna do so when I can make him the most awesomest thing ever and spend what ever I need to get the parts I want.

Ok, let's see how that goes out, but obviously the first obstacle for that is money XD

I just took a look at those. Not bad not bad. You can put a good MOC together. If you'd like I can individually comment on them.

How do you get them so big?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to RylakTyrnda [2010-05-13 03:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Uhhhhhh practice? It took me like 2-3 years to get ryakk that tall and another 2 to get him looking like that. Then Mototaur I did a few design stages and kept working on him. He was much faster to get this way cause a lot of the problems I had to figure out with Ryakk I already knew how to do with him. Though he had his own set pf problems. I'm really not that good. I just have(or had) the parts to be able to do this and I take my time with the big guys. I use a refinement process. I'll work on them till eveything works or looks the way I like it or until I'm satisfied with it.

Right, well, I don't think I have enough parts to do that.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to RylakTyrnda [2010-05-14 04:25:16 +0000 UTC]

Dunno, I couldn't really give you a measurement on how many parts it takes. There's a lot of those beam pieces with the holes in them, they're called liftarms I think. Ryakk took a lot of those, and mototaur has some as well. Mechus has some along his spine and on his legs but he is really spacious cause he's a mech suit. But yeah you gotta be pretty free with parts to be able to do these.

Yes, I don't have anywhere near enough parts for that sort of thing.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to RylakTyrnda [2010-05-15 14:42:25 +0000 UTC]

Ah really? Yeah it does take a certain level of investment to do this. Unfortunately I don't think I have the parts to do a fourth colossi. I think I want to try some Rahi though. But I'm actually gonna see if I can do a really big rahi and get creative with the structure.

Huh, I never actually knew that Ryakk's head was shaped like that. Have I really only ever seen his head from the front?

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to hydr0ph0en1x [2010-05-12 02:18:48 +0000 UTC]

Huh your tight. I don't have any of the side or back shots of him, I think I used to but deleted them, or I never submitted any. Hmmmmmmmm Well I have a bunch of those kinds of shots on my computer, I'll post some. Anyways, yeah Ryakks head sorta has that smooth arched head like the alien. That kinda why his head is still to small. I haven't figured out a way to keep thee shape and look, while making it bigger. But I also haven't tried very hard cause I really like his head design, I don't want to mess with it.

oh and I got some shots of mototaur's shoulder mechanism, do you want to see it? If I don't post them here I can always throw it up on image shack and link it to you.

Ohh, yes I would love to see them! Oh, and I'm also curious as to how his pneumatic system works. I'm thinking about buying some of that stuff, but I want to understand how it works first.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to hydr0ph0en1x [2010-05-15 14:40:21 +0000 UTC]

okay well I actually have the new or future Pneumatic system wired up and ready to go. The pneumatic system isn't hard to use or set up, its just kind difficult to incorporate. If you're gonna get a pneumatic system then you'll have to get some of the larger technic sets cause those are really the only sets you can get them in, aside from ordering stuff on Ebay. The technic sets are the better rout. Well its pretty simple you have your air pump that introduces air to the system, then all the elements are connected via rubber hoses that slip onto little uhhhh...nob things that have holes in thim for air to pass. I won't say what they look like. Just know that it all connects with a "male to female" type system, like computer parts and cables and stuff. So you have your air pump, then that can either go to a pressure tank, which is preferred cause then you can store more air pressure into the system, then that runs to a switch, which then runs to the pistons. The pistons is what gives you your movement. Then often times like I have on mototaur you might need one line to go to to ends, that's where you use those little T joints like were used to hold the fingers on Hydraxon and Maxilos. Those gray T shaped pieces? Yeah. Before the new system I'm going to integrate into moto I had two pistons, and I have two air pumos as well I took a single T joint to convert the two lines from the air pumps into one that then runs to the tank, and then to the switcher. No with the switcher lines I use another T joint to convert a single to a double. The switcher diverts air to where you want it to go. You put say right/up on the connection that will make the piston rise, and left/down on the connection that will make it lower. In this case for each line I have to so I took both left lines and put them on the bottom connections and then took both right lines and put them on the top connections. So when everything is connected you pump the system till there's enough pressure to power the pistons, but not so much pressure that you pop off a line, cause that will happen and its a pain in the ass. It even makes a poping sound to. Anyways once the system is pumped you flip the switch and the piston(s) move accordingly. Hope that wasn't too confusing I'll get that picture of the pneumatic system to you real soon, along with the shoulder set up. Hope you enjoyed my text wall on pneumatic systems. LOL

Yeah, if I were to get them, I would buy them from bricklink. Pretty handy website. Lol, very nice metaphor. Wow, sounds complex. I guess the way it would make the most sense is just to buy the pieces. But I need to know what pieces to buy. *sigh* but yeah, very nice wall of text. Like, super big. Ooh, btw, I'm planning on painting a Hau Nuva gold. Because I have an extra, and I think it will look awesome.

Yeah that's a pretty cool site, I've poked around there. I can't figure out though how to get the actual price of parts so I could figure out how to calculate how much it'd cost to get parts. Its cool that there's a site like that, but its rather confusing to me. I'm kinda dumb about interwebz stuff though. As for what pieces you need you'd have to figure out what you'd be building and what you need to have done with these pneumatic. Regardless of what you do things like tubing, at least one air pump and switches and a minimum of one actuator are necessary. After that then you have more actuators, t joints extra switches it get complicated. And sorry about the text wall you and I tend to get a little carried away sometimes huh? I still got a bunch of replies Ineed to get to that I've avoided cause they're long.

Sweet I was thinking of doing a gold mask myself with some of this like super shiny gold spray paint that my uncle has. It makes it like chrome reflective, but gold. Yeah.

Yeah, it is kinda confusing. Yeah, that's okay, it just takes me longer to reply to those. I sometimes look at my inbox and you've send me like, 3 huge walls of text.

Yup, the mask turned out pretty cool. I just have to finish building the rest of the set now.

Yeah I know what you mean we should cut down our messages they're pretty coonfusing to follow cause there's like 5839657r90-58oihejr0p45738y543093hn conversations within one reply and then we had like 4 convoes goin on. Just to let you know I deleted all those, and just about all the other conversations I had. After all that posting I did for gravix/mechus I got a bunch of people commenting and had so much going on it was like "okay screw all this DELETEDELETEDELETE!!!" And hey you can send some text wall your self missy so

Sweet you mean the one you painted right? What do you mean by finish the rest of the set?

Aha yeah, really. I totally get it. Well, I don't do walls as often... Do I? Well, it's kinda hard to see in this format. Idk. But yeah, I guess I can send some nice walls of text.

Yeah, the one I painted. Well, I have a body that I want to put the mask on. I think it will look pretty sweet. It was going to be super duper flexible and have two articulation points in the torso and points in the feet, but I don't know if I'll be able to achieve that.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to hydr0ph0en1x [2010-05-28 20:24:12 +0000 UTC]

No you don't, you've done a few here an there. But we mostly have text.....curbs? Idunno they're like those short little 3 foot was were you stand there going "WTF is this thing supposed to hold back a F***** Chihuahua?!" yeah those knd of walls. we get many of those going. Its alright I don't mind them just means we have good strong conversations.

ah sweet. As I mentioned in my journal I'm doing something for Barrele's contest so I'm crrently working on something as well. So why don't you think you'll be able to achieve the articulations?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hydr0ph0en1x In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2010-05-29 02:11:01 +0000 UTC]

Ahaha, yeah, text curbs. Or speed bumps maybe? Well, the articulations, maybe they will work, but they just wouldn't fit with the technique I was using, so maybe I'll change my approach. I don't know. I have to figure out where the points will be.

Okay well you know I'm always willing to help. Yeah shoulders are hard to manage. I used the 08 Takanuva shoulder design for Atlas and I think Lego reused it on the mata nui titan. Or they did something similar.

hydr0ph0en1x In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2010-05-31 18:21:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the thing is, I'm giving shoulders to a canister size set. Well, it might be a bit bigger than a normal one, but still.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to hydr0ph0en1x [2010-05-31 23:54:42 +0000 UTC]

ah I did that to ya know. O-jin has articulated shoulders as well as Ootei to some degree. I just use a double ball joint system for O-jin and for Ootei he basically as a smaller version of what the big guys have.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hydr0ph0en1x In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2010-06-01 00:18:24 +0000 UTC]

Aha, cool. Yeah, I don't think I'm going to have to double up the joints if I do it right on this guy, but I realize now that his armor is too solid to add more than one point of articulation in the torso. Maybe I'll do that with a titan sized set then.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to hydr0ph0en1x [2010-06-01 04:24:40 +0000 UTC]

Hmmmm what ever works. Hope you figure it out and can't wait to see it I remember when I first had to start doubling up joints on the early version of Ryakk. Then double has lead to tripling.
