Ohman. How long does/would it take to put "realistic fur" pattern on one of your drawings?

Wow. Um, about... 8-12 hours, maybe? It's a long process.Β

Maaan. Takes a long time to do something so good as your work. ;_;

Yup. Takes a while.

And thank you <3

This tutorial is really helpful. I'll have to try doing fur like this sometime.
And I didn't realize at first that it's the same basic method as =Lhuin
I kept thinking that I've seen fur drawn kind of like that before. xD

lol Yup. It's actually pretty common. *Tatchit uses something similar as well. So, yeah.

Anyway, hope it helps!

I guess so. I've never really tried to anything realistic using that method to be honest, so it'll be a first for me. xD
I normally would just draw each individual fur right from almost the start. e.e
I work insanely slow, so that didn't completely work out for me.

Each individual fur is pretty impractical. It's easier to do it like this in my opinion.Β

It should be much easier, I'm sure. xD
And I've never exactly been known for being practical with my art..

I kind of just do whatever works or whatever I think will work, which usually doesn't work.
I'm trying to get out of that habit and pay more attention to how I should be doing things. x3

Yeah. Me too :3

My art usually turns out looking kind of dull in a way.. trying to improve upon that.Β

In all honesty, I don't find your artwork dull at all. ^^
But improvement is always the way to go.

Thank you XD but as always the artist probably detects most of the flaws in their own artwork :3

Welcome.
And that's usually true. We wouldn't get anywhere with improving if we didn't see our own flaws in our art.
That's why I love art. You're always improving and learning. No matter what there's always a different way to do the same type of things.

ooh, that's cool! I'd use it, but I'm so impatient.

True, you have to have a lot of patience to use this technique. I've been at this about oh, 7-8 hours and still only half done.Β

This is a great tutorial! I like how you've explained each step and why you've done it like that. The only thing you could think about improving, if you wanted to, is the stark shadows of the different pieces/clumps of fur, but I guess its just style, but in reality the shading is...softer?
Anyway, wonderful anatomy and the shading on those eyes is gorgeous!

PricklyAlpaca In reply to harpxer [2013-08-10 21:11:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

And that's just my stylization. I'm about half done with the piece now, you can't even see the outlines now because fur is over them XDΒ

But yeah, that's just my bold style.Β

Anyway, thank you <3
