Description This is a Step - by - Step Tutorial of how I made my sprite for my pixelID: [link]

A few people asked my how I did it~ So I decided to make this. I hope it helps people who are still in the process of making their Pixel IDs!! ...or just pixeling in general

Just a disclaimer, this is the way that I pixel, it's by far not the only way, or maybe even the easiest way~ but it's what works for me.

*** ALSO! This Tutorial: [link] helped me out a lot when I was pixeling. Definitely read it if you have time!

I'm really sorry to say but...pixels actually do have to be done pixel by pixel :S

Hmm... I don't mean to barge in, but does the paint bucket not count in MSPaint? What about if you're doing a MASS curve and you use the line-curve tool? These tools count not as tribute to pixel art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lunar-eclipse In reply to MrEdison [2007-08-17 13:07:45 +0000 UTC]

Well...it actually depends who you talk to. I find the paint bucket alright, though I don't quite agree with the curve tool (you'd never make the *exact* same lines on your own whereas painbucket does the same you would have, only faster). But the extreme pixel purists would probably tell you that these tools are out as well. Don't get me wrong, though, I do accept other peoples' views on pixel art (even if I don't really like them), this one's just my own. Though, yes, most of the work should be done pixel by pixel for it to be true pixel art (and definitely not include 'tooling'.

MrEdison In reply to lunar-eclipse [2007-08-18 03:07:22 +0000 UTC]

Hmm I agree to some extent, however, I do see where you're coming from. Especially considering that pixel art is something along the same lines as stippling. Yeah, I do feel guilty for using the curve tool at times but at times it could be the most convenient. I don't know, it's like when I use the curve tool most of the time I erase some of the line because I don't like how it looks but other than that I use it more as a guide (because I start from scratch) so I won't wonder off into a totally different area. But yes, I do still have that little bit of guilt left in me. Kinda like that feeling when you use cheat-codes for games. I don't know. I'm probably just blabbering and can't even remember what I just wrote so... bleh. XD

I wish I had phtoshop that looks soo awesome, but alas I don't TT.TT That pic looks great though Nice directions too I might be able to do it if I had:
1. Self-confidence
2. Culd draw(see not self-confidence at all, because I truly think I can't)
and 3.Photoshop. Yours looks great though I hope yu are happy with the outcome

greatherorosalyn [2007-08-07 01:29:44 +0000 UTC]

Okay... CLEARLY that's what you do to make a Sprite, but you never explained HOW you do it. Just "fill in your details" like that's sufficient or something? It's a pretty drawing, but it's not a tutorial. That's like someone doing a lineart tutorial that says "Draw your character on the paper. Then ink it. Then you're done!!!!"

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

ippus In reply to greatherorosalyn [2007-08-07 07:28:49 +0000 UTC]

Not all tutorials are in-depth. While a Lineart tutorial focuses onto one area of a drawing, thus a 3 step "get paper, draw, finish" cannot be sufficient, the purpose of PB's tutorial was to merely to show how the final product, as a whole, came to be.
At the moment the forceful accusations you left blatantly on her deviation seem much more rude than her curt reply.

ProdigyBombay In reply to greatherorosalyn [2007-08-07 01:48:17 +0000 UTC]

this is a "step" tutorial, showing the steps of how I made a sprite. it is not a comprehensive tutorial on how to shade or color, sorry. Those would be totally different tutorials.

Oh my God, I love you. You've finally showed an easier, and much more efficient way of completing this pID task. I've been attempting to make a pixel version of myself by eye and totally neglected this feature of Photoshop. Thanks a bunch, mate. ^-^
