I've tried to thank you all personally on your pages but dA thinks I'm spamming so I'm afraid I can't although I have thanked about 200 deviants here. I will however, respond to all comments on this video.
Running Free is the accumulation of six weeks of intense filming and editing, blood, pain, joy, sweat, fear and above all things, pure freedom.
So often people see free running as something other than an art, Running Free tries to break that idea by giving you a first person account of the art.
The film was born when I happened to mention to my friend, David Stewart, that I was a keen free runner, he mentioned to me that he was a keen film maker, the two minds clicked and we decided to make this film. We spent two weeks writing scripts and coming up with ideas and concepts but we just came out with rubbish. So we decided to just film some footage of me free running and that's when the penny dropped, how could we possibly come up with an idea for a film about something so free? We continued to film for three weeks till I sustained an injury to my coccyx (you can see the accident at 1:35) which put me out of action for a number of weeks. In this time we met up to chat about the film and David had the idea to interview me. I had not planned any of what I was going to say which I think really works for the film, it's a free runner talking about free running in a very honest, off the cuff way. The track, Burial by Forgive just seemed to feel right when we put it in the film and there were no questions as to whether it should be in the film or not.
A big thank you to everyone involved in making the film. Our friends who helped critique the first drafts. Hyperdub for giving us permission to use the music free of charge. William Bevan for writing Forgive; seriously, a better track for the video could never be found. Phil Hunter for teaching me what free running was all about. And finally, spontaneity, for giving us brilliant audio for the video.
All filming was done by David Stewart, I co-directed the video with him and the free runner was myself. Copyright is under both our names.
Permission was granted by Hyperdub to use the track, Forgive by Burial in the film in September 2009.

That's right! Which is why I do free running, it's not really bonded by rules, it's just really open, and politics never really comes into it. With free running, you just do.
Parkour is entirely different but quite similar also.

Haha, well be careful, don't try anything big, start low and start slow. Try and find some people in your local area who freerun as well.

Indeed I am, although I wouldn't say I'm an actor! This is real, this is just me training to do what I love.
Thanks for your comment .

Just a random politician, Alistair Darling, not a big fan of his, just love his contrasting eyebrows.

Amazing seriously, the music really fit the piece so well, great scenes and a nice friendly voice over too. I would if I were you seriously think about doing low budget short films, I think you would be very very good at it.

Thanks, but it's a really hard video to follow. I just don't know what I can film to make something better than this. I would like to make more films, I'm just worried that I can't.

This video just about sums up the awesomeness of freerunning. I was drawn to it's coloration from the very beginning.
I have a couple of friends who do freerunning. Well, more specifically, Parkour. I love watching them, and they even offered to show me how. Of course I accepted.
Anyway, I love this video is deffinantly made of awesomeness. I'll have to show it to my parkour friends.

The bail did hurt... a lot. I was out of action for about three weeks and I couldn't sit down for a whole day!
Mate, don't let size stop you, train like crazy and you'll shed it off, trust me, it's so worth it.

Sorry to hear that. I hate accidents like that.
Its not that im fat and cannot support my own weight...
NO! I can run.. Just with a height of 6.5
and 100 kg the ... objects that i hang on to tend to break
and leave me with some major injuries...
so i started Capoeira instead ^- ^

Ah right! Ermmm, well, you should aim not to put too much weight on your obstacles for vaults and stuff. For landing, yeah, a bit of weight is fine. However, my friend weighs about 110kg and he is the free running world champion at the moment.

It makes me smile that you enjoyed the film so much.
Yeah, well, the film was just so organic, I mean, non of it was really planned, I didn't even think about what I was saying. When we did try to write scripts it just didn't work. So if you want to praise anyone, praise spontaneity!

Ha! I'm barely good! Don't concentrate on how good or bad others are, that's exactly what I did and it's exactly why I left the scene for a while. Just focus on your own game, appreciate what other free runners are doing and keep on training. Enjoy free running for what it is to you.

I don't usually watch videos here but something compelled me to see this and I'm glad I did. Kudos to you and Mr. Stewart, congrats on the DD.
Also, I've always been interested in the whole Parkour and free-running thing, but never knew where to start. Could you give some tips?

pyro-tom In reply to Spirrus [2009-11-08 22:26:20 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, firstly, for your kind words.
As for where to start. I'd check out [link] . It's a great website with loads of info on it. There's a forum there with various different sections and I believe there is also a section for finding other free runners in your local area. If not, search Google with your local area and "free running" and you're more than likely to find some people. Other free runners are usually friendly and will help you learn moves and whatnot.
Good luck and I hope to see your videos in the future!
