amazing details. love how you composed the stars to make them more dense in the center. the dragon is awesome to!

Thanks very much!
I wanted the background stars to read as a galactic swirl, and the hub of a galaxy always has a big cluster of close, bright stars. This isn't quite *intense* enough, though...

Gah! I love this to death! All that stippling and the stars that shine so beautifully against the black...!

Thanks very much!
It's not nearly as textural as your pieces tend to be, though. I think I prefer your mixed texture method even more than just-plain-dots.

Ahhhh I really like the concept! The dragon is like a negative of the background...black points on white, white points on black...a fantastic effect. And kudos to anyone that can pull off pointillism!!!
(As an astrophysics major, I adore the space theme, of course, but that's besides the point xD )

Thanks very much!
Pointillism isn't all that hard; it just takes a lot of patience - I handle the madness by spreading a dot-project out over several weeks.
I'd had unexpectedly good luck with the first couple of Path Between Stars ideas in which I used cats (it was a "fail" and a "pass" for a book illustration); naturally, I wanted to try the same idea with a dragon. Plus, even though I'm not anything like an astrophysicist, I really like the whole galactic swirl thing from a purely visual standpoint.

Pretty! Now that you mention the shimmer, you can kinda tell it might up in the top swirl of stars.

Thanks!
I tried to pick up some of the highlights with Photoshop tools, though the effect really isn't the same.

Nah, this one stays black and white as far as my own project pile is concerned. Others are welcome to color it if they want to, though.

Thanks kindly. The avatar is from an older project whose colors turned out particularly nicely.

Thank you. I'm glad you like this picture - and all the little dots. The dots make an interesting texture, but they do take a long time to put on paper!

Indeed. And it's great that you had the patience to do this. I'd never be able to even do half of how much you did. xD
