Gorgeous!!! I love the black stippling on white paper juxtaposed with the white opalescent dots on a black background.

Thank you. It's an unusual piece for me, being comprised of so many dots.

Oh yes. Many, many thousands of little dots. I love them dearly, each and every dot.

Dots. I can't shade like that so it's even more amazing <3

This is beautiful Rachael! Do the stars in the background have textures? I really like the look of them. Dragon looks amazing, too!! Great work

Thanks very much!
Yes, there's just a bit of texture in the real version of this piece. I used a paint with a bit of body so that the larger stars would be like little half-pearls on the paper.

My pleasure!
I thought it looks like there is a bit of depth The original must be very pretty

I like how the stars are 3D...
And pointillism...brings back cross-eyed memories every time! I hope you're enjoying yours, i didnt enjoy mine.

Thanks!
Photoshop gets the credit for making the stars look nifty in the digital version - the scan didn't pick up the little droplet shapes as well as I'd hoped.
Yeah, pointillism is a bear. That's why I can only stand to do it for about half an hour at a time. But the texture...

Thank you!
It's taken me ages to get to the point where my black-n-whites are passable, so I'm glad that this piece passes muster.

There is something that screams "classic fantasy" about this. I don't know what it might be though. Great shading and muscular definition.
Hope I get to see it in real life. *Shiny!*

Thanks! If I still have the piece after Archon in October, then it'll be at ConQuesT in 2012.
It might be the super-simple, direct approach - fantastic-thing-in-starfield seems to have been a favorite subject among the fanzine illustrators of eld. I just happened to be running with a theme of my own in this case. That it reads "classic fantasy" is a bonus.

Wow! You're going to Archon!!! Good luck! I hope you do well!

This i quit a gorgeous dragon you have made n black and white. I really how you have made the shading with dots and the amount they are spaced, plus the way you made the spiral galaxy, nicely done.
