Description

The Kom’rk-class ship is a Mandalorian vessel which has appeared numerous times during the Star Wars saga. At different points in the time-line, the craft has appeared in three subtly different designs, with each of these designs apparently being constructed in 3 dramatically different sizes.

All of these size and design changes have led to some confusion, and this chart is meant to help add some clarity.

Whether these designs represent 3 distinctly different manufacturing variants, or a series of "retcons" isn’t entirely clear. But to play is safe, I’m going to assume that there are (at least) three distinct design variants of the Kom’rk. (NOTE: My use of the terminology: “Mark 1, Mark 2, and Mark 3” is entirely “unofficial.” I am simply using these terms here, to help clarify which of the 3 variants I am referring to.) Additionally, the numbers 1, 2, and 3 refer to the order in which these ships appeared on screen, and may not necessarily conform to the order in which they were manufactured.

Kom’rk Mark 1: The Kom’rk (or Gauntlet) first appeared in the computer-animated series Star Wars – The Clone Wars. In its first appearance, the Kom’rk is a colossal 68 meters long (or 223 feet!) Despite its enormous size, the vessel is often referred to as being a “fighter.”

Kom’rk Mark 2: The Kom’rk later appears in Star Wars the Clone Wars Season 5, Episode 14. By this time, the design has been subtly refined and downscaled from its initial 68 meters in length to 52.3 meters (or 171.6 feet.) The “nose” and wings have been altered somewhat from the initial design. Along the way, we learn that this downsized version of the ship is capable of launching 24 fully-armed and armored Mandalorian warriors (equipped with jetpacks) out of the belly of the craft during flight. Darth Maul’s Kom’rk-class ship, the Nightbrother, (painted red and black) is this same variant.

Kom’rk Mark 3: The Kom’rk most recently appeared in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. This craft appears to have been the personal ship of Bo Katan Kryze. The design of this craft is subtly different and distinct in a number of ways from the Mark 1 and Mark 2. Whether these differences are “real” or whether they can be chalked up to the natural transition between animated and “live action” depictions is not really known. What is known is that the “live action” version of the Kom’rk is a mere 29.6 meters (97 feet) in length. While variants 1 and 2 were substantially larger than the Millennium Falcon, the Mark 3 is slightly smaller than the Falcon. Of note, this new length is less than HALF the length of the original Mark 1, and therefore this new craft is approximately one eighth the volume of the Mark 1. Additionally, while the Mark 3 is equipped with a ventrally-mounted launch bay for Mandalorian super-commandos, the bay seems to be substantially smaller than the one on the Mark 2, and therefore seems to accommodate substantially fewer troopers.
