Description Ashrah, whose name means “Lady of the Sea” is a fallen angel who was worshipped as far back as Moses’s day. She also goes by the name, Asura. Popular among the Canaanites, she was identified as Baal’s lover. Of course, the Jewish leaders couldn’t have this so they persecuted Ashrah’s followers.
However, despite the consequences, Ashrah’s followers stood fast and persevered. Because of this, the Jews gave in and included Ashrah in the Kabbala. If you can’t beat them down, change history to suit them, right? To cover up that she was Baal's lover, they changed Ashrah's name and background. So. . . Ashrah became Shekina, meaning “presence”, and instead of Baal, they portrayed her as the wife of Yahweh, even giving her the title of “God the Mother”. They went so far as to give her sacred poles which stood on either side of God’s altar and these poles were said to have healing properties. Eventually, Ashrah, as Shekina, became known as a goddess of healing and of the tides.
She was finally removed from the Old Testament somewhere between 400 and 500 BC. Those who continued to worship Ashrah were slain by Josiah. History repeated itself, however, and her followers would not die out completely. Ashrah could not be wiped from history.
It may sound like I am antagonizing Ashrah. I am not, nor am I antagonizing the people who worshipped her. I don’t believe this diety to be evil; it is by the stupidity of humans that she was idolized and people were persecuted on account of it. Ashrah is a benign spirit, naturally, and her charges include bringing blessings upon families and helping those with aspirations to achieve their goals and dreams. Ashrah is also an angel of moral strength. As such, she attempts to help those undergoing hard times to maintain their sanity and composure and keep their spirit from becoming dark and bitter.
King Solomon, a man very familiar with the fallen (he wrote the key of solomon after all), recognized Ashrah and called her “Qaniyatu Elima”, meaning “she who gives birth to gods”. As a related note, it is documented by some sources that she is an ancestor of the Greek love goddess, Aphrodite.
Ashrah is depicted as a beautiful dark haired female angel in a long flowing white dress. Her symbols include the lion, lily, a tree and a triangle on a cross. Yes, the hairstyle I used in this was inspired by Mortal Kombat's interpretation of her, simply because I like their depiction and it's not that far off.

It may have been too late for me to say this (you did post this up in the year 2006. =/) but...I just came across your art and realised how beautiful it was.

That and the description you included for the picture just added more to her beauty.

Another reason would probably be that I have a huge interest in demonology. Thanks to you, I now have another mythical being to be added to my list of demon/fallen beings to study.

Lovely artwork, keep it up!

Hey cool. Demonology's a subject of passion for me, so it's always nice to meet someone else into the field. Much of my work is of beings from various pantheons. I look forward to checking out your own gallery when I get a chance.

Unfortunately, I have nothing much on my gallery. Unlike most of you, I'm not much of an artist, though I do like to write.

Nothing inspiring, so far. XD
