I don't have a pay-pal or estay account set up yet. Plus that cobra was just a prototype to see if I can make large full scaled one. I'm still trying to get the dragon scales to work with it.

Is this a hobby or a does it also pays the bills.

It's a hobby. Out of 71 projects in my gallery 2 were sold and 8 were gifts. The rest sit on a shelf as a prototype to help make the next one. Many of the thing I make end up in the fire pit because I don't like how they turned out. This is a new type of woodworking for me and I don't have anyone who does this type to ask for help. Thats why I like it here at DA because everyone comments do help with new ideas to try. Β I make RC airplanes for the guys at work just so I can buy the wood I need for these projects. One day I hope to get good enough to sell my work but their just to fragile still. Β

How do you even polish/carve/shape the wood?
What got you into this type of art work in the first place?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rcdog In reply to VolomonArt [2014-03-27 01:36:59 +0000 UTC]

I sand the wood up to 320 and use poly spray to get the shine. I liked to makeΒ intarsias but ran out of wall space, so I tried to make it 3D. I like this better because I can use different woods to change the color, or get some color in the project. If I carved I would have to stain the wood to get what I want out of it.

How much did you practice to get this good? Was a few hours everyday?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rcdog In reply to VolomonArt [2014-04-06 14:11:06 +0000 UTC]

I try to spend 2 hours a day working on something, even if I don't get much done. It seems like I'll look at a project to see how to get around a problem area.Β

To be brutality honest. I have been way too lazy in regards to my art work and reading your comment has given me extra motivation to start working at it again.

No, I glued it to see if it would hold up under it's own weight. If you look at my Leviathan that's how it will be when I make the big one.

You probably have no idea how mind-blowing it is when people who make awesome things are all like, "This? Oh, it's just junk. Wait 'til you see the real thing!" Seriously, improving on this would be like taking awesome to the nth power.

rcdog In reply to MaChPi [2011-08-21 04:18:26 +0000 UTC]

The cobra was a prototype just like Spike was. I wanted to see if I could get the shape I wanted, then I would put the time into the good one. I would like it thicker and the scales better.

Cool, I was thoroughly addicted to that site. So much that I had to stop going there for a while. Now I've found this site. Uh Oh... Anyway my handle on lumberjocks is "Wingstress". Check out some of my other work. [link]

yes I think its moreless the same way the only diference is the material but I guess working with wood must be more dificult than working with paper you are really gifted

rcdog In reply to FENIXRECKONING [2011-06-28 01:11:57 +0000 UTC]

I started with paper and moved to wood. I try to use the look of the wood as my paint, but sometime the block you start with doesn't look the same when your done.

This was a 2nd try at it. Now I can use the good wood and try to add some depth to the body.
