Description This was a challenge very similar to 'Arasoke Warrior'.
Lincoln is so well known that I hesitated for close to 9 months before doing this one, and it was something of a challenge to capture his rugged appearance accurately, especially the region of the eyes and the trademark beard.

The image alone can describe his voice. It would be nice to here what he actually sounded like.

They didn't have any kind of recording back then did they?

Did you use the last picture ever taken of him as a template? You know, the one with the cracked camera lens? This looks really familiar. I don't know why I have random memories like that from sixth grade history, but there you go.

I based it off of a rather well known photograph of him, I believe taken sometime during the Civil War.

But any way you slice it, Lincoln was one of the most instantly recognizable presidents.

Photographs produced prior to 1923 now reside in the public domain.

The photograph of Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865) is no longer considered copyrighted material and hasn't been for quite some time.

wow! such a realistic piece of our former president! I respect him because he had the courage to make a movement to abolish slavery. Like lincoln, I'm a firm believer that everybody should be treated equal and is human. After all, we were all born from two people: Adam and Eve. (at least according to the bible.

Racism towards african americans still exist today, and still needs to be worked on, but at least we're making progress.

Again, excellent work on this piece

Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. feature ! congrats!
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure (and ALSO, to show off people who I think are undeniably talented in their own genre of art, REGARDLESS of their #'s of fav's or pageviews. I like what I like and sometimes artwork isn't featured in the regular DDs because it's popular all on it's own It's a shame, but the admins are only trying to be fair! ). Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists . If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! Sandi xoxo

This piece looks great. Charcoal? XD That's a really big image:.

Intimidating? Really? Very interesting.

heh, this image makes me want to work with a more realistic touch... more at least than my usual taste.

realitysquared In reply to NightmareSherbert [2006-03-04 01:37:52 +0000 UTC]

Actually it's a 2B pencil- charcoal was always too messy for my taste.

NightmareSherbert In reply to realitysquared [2006-03-05 20:41:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, carcoal is messy, but you did a pertty good job controling it in my opinion.
At least you still use charcoal. I kinda gave it up. Didn't like using it.

quote=realityquared "2B pencil- CHARCOAL." Ever seen a charcoal pencil? o.O Somewhat less messier, since the wood of the pencil serves as a handle. Instead of having a graphite point however, it has a charcoal point. ^^

Oh man, we have a portrait of Abe hanging in my living room (my dad's a civil war reenactor) and this looks so much like it! You've totally captured him! Wow...I mean, wow. Not only does the detail really capture the essence of Abe but the quality of the drawing looks like it had been done in his time so that it really moves with the portrait. Now that is talent.
