Work from my Bachelor of Fine Art thesis show___________________________
This is one of my favorite pieces, just because I really had a vision and passion to complete it. Here I spelled out "Humor" in Binary code using ceramic toilet paper. I threw the toilet paper on the wheel as a closed off double cylinder. It took a while, and I don't think I would have finished it if it wasn't so close to my heart. It's not the best image, it's much better seen in person.

___________________________
In this line of work, using everyday objects as text, I wrote out concepts which I have struggled to grasp in binary code. I chose binary code because of its simple yet complex characteristics. In binary code, you either have a “1” or a “0”. It’s simply one or the other. However, when put together in a sequence they can represent characters which form words used for communication. Everything input into a computer has to be filtered through binary code. I compared this to the way people think. Everything I feel is brought into me through a language that I understand. The objects I choose may or may not make sense to everyone because it is the mental connection I make when I relate difficult concepts to my tangible, physical world. The viewer may be able to draw the same connections I do, or to their own ideas. These pieces also work as hieroglyphs in that sense, giving this body of work a bilingual quality that I enjoy.

What an original concept! I certainly have never seen quite this idea before and it tickles my funny-bones in the way puns usually do.
Reboot FTW btw.

I was the as as some other deviants who thought why is this a DD. Then I read the description and I thought 'Wow, it looks so real and cannot believe it's a sculpture!'

This is one of the most wonderful ceramic works I have seen in quite some time.
What did you do for the surface treatment? It definately appears unglazed, but did you leave the surface untreated or use something like a terra sig?
I love the attention to the details esp. the part of the roll where the "paper" goes around the "tube"
Fantastic work!

Thanks!]
This is actually unglazed earthenware. All I did to these was paint the inside where the cardboard is.

Oh I understand completely ^^
So it was a white earthenware clay body? Did you make your own recipe for it (as I haven't used much white earthenware and usually still to porcelain)

At first I thought "wtf...a pic of toilet paper as a DD. it's bound to be flamed. Lemme check it out"
Them when I saw it was sculpted, I was in awe.
It's soo lovely that you can get a soft looking texture out of ceramic. And the "humor" behind it is win

at first i was like, "why is this photograph of toilet paper a daily deviation. why." and then i read closer, and i was shocked. I cant believe that these are all hand-made ceramic. it's so beautiful (yeah, your toilet paper is absolutely gorgeous) and well- done. having the binary code added in was almost too much for me, haha.
congratualtions on a well-deserved daily deviation. c;

each roll is a cylinder 5 inches tall and 5 inches diameter, so it was 25 inches tall and 35 inches across. I wish it could have been bigger, or maybe in a smaller gallery, making it seem larger.
