Description First thing I'd like to explain: this tutorial absolutely doesn't include anatomy or digital coloring lessons. I think there are many good tutorials about it here on dA.
It' just the colllection of my basic tips which are helpful when we want to save some time. These are things I have learnt myself during the recent years and I'd like to share them with you. I hope it will help you to collect ideas, arrange composition of your drawings, and to avoid typical anatomy mistakes. Moreover, I presented some solutions for correcting mistakes or getting the balance of colors in a very quick way.

I'm aware they are very general tips but I think they can be helpful for the beginners.

Hope you will like this tutorial :]

Ooo thanks! I like the idea of using the dominating colour for the background, then building up from there. These are awesome tips! Thank you!

I really like your tutorial thanks for posting. I'm not a fan of resizing in PS using the free transform though, I find it becomes relied upon too much and the same mistakes are continuously made because the original problem was never corrected while drawing it was just altered in PS.

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to SeraphicSkeleton [2010-03-03 17:31:28 +0000 UTC]

I find the free transform method good for those who are in hurry . Sometimes, I find it very frustrting that after correcting the mistake manually it looks worse than the previous version.

XD I totally understand, I wasn't criticizing or anything. I have just noticed this attitude on dA of "I'll fix it in PS" and it's like taking the easy way out. (I know all too well about trying to fix something in a picture and making it worse XD) I guess what I mean is I've met people who don't understand proportions properly (does not apply to my friends if they are reading this) and just fix it up on PS rather than learn how to do it properly. I mean if you entered their PS work in a contest they might win but if you entered their work by hand they would definitely fail XD Sorry if that's long or confusing... >.<;

I know what you mean and I agree with your opinion. Photoshop shouldn't be a tool for fixing everything because it's better if we learn some things on our own :].

Exactly! I didn't mean to sound harsh or anything before! to your Lineart tutorial as well, that might just help me cut down the amount of time I spend on my pics XD. (I usually would redraw the lineart over top. very time consuming XD!)

I really, really do~! :3 And I'm just as impressed with your other tutorials! It may just be me, but I really think you have a knack for tutorial-making. You explain thing in a way that's really easy for me (and many other people, I'm sure) to understand. I'm going to do my best to apply what I've learned to my own art, and hopefully I can improve (if only a little) :3 Again, thank you very very much~!

But now that I see that you've done the same thing I did, I don't feel so bad anymore. Thanks much for sharing this to our community

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to MiraKHall [2010-02-26 17:44:41 +0000 UTC]

Heh, you know.. Sometimes it's better to correct it digitally since when we redraw it we are often not satisfied with the result and we prefer the previous version.

Mirror images don't work with me, and i wonder why. I have to stay a bit far from my drawing for see mistakes.

About sketches, somethimes i sketch with close eyes. In that way i can get better how image that i want to draw has to look.

About references, i have not understood if pose in reference image has to be the same that i want to draw, or references is simple for see how people look.

I like this tutorial.
