Description First thing I'd like to explain: this tutorial absolutely doesn't include anatomy or digital coloring lessons. I think there are many good tutorials about it here on dA.
It' just the colllection of my basic tips which are helpful when we want to save some time. These are things I have learnt myself during the recent years and I'd like to share them with you. I hope it will help you to collect ideas, arrange composition of your drawings, and to avoid typical anatomy mistakes. Moreover, I presented some solutions for correcting mistakes or getting the balance of colors in a very quick way.

I'm aware they are very general tips but I think they can be helpful for the beginners.

Hope you will like this tutorial :]

Hi Red-Priest-Usada. ♥

Thanks for making this 'tutorial' so much, I haven't drawn for atleast five months due to lack of inspiration and anything original coming to mind. Also my lack of skills really gets me down at times, but with your tutorial I've suddenly found a bit more inspiration then I had before and I'm off to draw.

Tak bylo w przypadku mojej pracy Her warm World. To co jest na devie to lustrzanka XD''.

Fantastic! Makes me want to do traditional art. I even have a light box for easy corrections, yet I never use it.
I have noticed it's easier for me to draw out my ideas in pencil then transfer them, this would save more time doing lines before I color. o:

And the coloring tip was awesome.

OceanTears In reply to ajmadee [2010-02-26 17:39:25 +0000 UTC]

hahaha omg yea tell me about it. I also used it on my previous drawing and I was like; whut, you kidding? the eye's too high?XD

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to OceanTears [2010-02-25 21:25:41 +0000 UTC]

The mirror image helps me to spot most mistakes . Sometimes it's scary to see how the face is not symmetric .

OceanTears In reply to Red-Priest-Usada [2010-02-26 17:42:11 +0000 UTC]

yea, faces can turn out so..weird. and scary sometimes xD but it's the fastest way to spot the mistakes yes :3 but also anoyying if you really thought you did it right xD

Beautiful tutorial, and it is a good help! ^.^
Instead of making a mirror image with a software or asking someone to glance at the draw, we can just look at it from a real mirror. That works too.

On the anatomy thing its possible though that people might have long arms like I knew this girl, she was 13 and her arms passed her knees lol

gdpr-7484797 In reply to Red-Priest-Usada [2010-02-25 20:50:29 +0000 UTC]

lol I swear its true and she used to draw a lot and she drew well but I never got why her arms were so out of proportion and she was like but they aren't, and me, where do you get your examples...then she just stood up and i realised that she really did have long arms lmao

I knew some of these things but what I found especially helpful was the 65-85% opacity trick for matching the background. That's very clever. Thanks for posting this, and taking your time out to teach

Wow! this is super helpful accompanied with wonderful art!!
Mind if I ask what type of brush you use for rough drafts (also how you set it up for a tablet) and how they do you prepare them to be colored? ^^

*is nub at tablet stuff*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to KuriChan001 [2010-02-25 20:07:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, when I make a lineart with my pencil, I scan it and clean it in Photoshop. I presented the way I prepare my rough sketches for coloring in my previous tutorial: cleaning linearts. Next, I multiply the layer wih my lineart and set the mode into Multiply (the white color here is transparent now) and I start coloring on the new layers UNDER this layer with my lines. I usually use some soft round brushes. There is a tutorial about my digital coloring in my gallery folder.
