Description
A chart/graphic for my portfolio cause I really needed an example of that. The purpose is to tell what parts of an hunted animal is used or consumed, but also which kind of meat comes from which part of the body(in general.)Β

This is great! Glad to see some support for hunting you did really well with the anatomy and I am glad you included taxidermy
I like that the majority of the animal can be used for something and taxidermy really lets the animal continue on in a way

Although I'm working on becoming a vegan, I really support people who hunt their food! Those animals have lived good, free lives. The pelt is also perfect to use as saddleblankets, it's really good for the back of the horse

I respect both hunters and vegans/vegetarians. Mostly the reasoning are on the same line: animal welfare with consumption

I remember watching a kangaroo be skinned (not on youtube, in front of me) and wondering what piece of the animal would be the best to eat. I know dogs love the tail.
I love this chart. Should I ever get to hunt deer up north it'll be a handy thing to have.

I really love fresh meat, it's best and has a lot less fat and stuff. In the end, it tastes better too. I really agree with being against farmed foods, I always try to convince my parents to buy free range and grass fed as much as possible. Luckily, they agree it's a lot better, anyways, really cool chart!

Kinda like beef, but a looot richer in flavor, kind of gamey, but I like it. Β It's delicious but that's my opinion. Β ^^

So well done. Super accurate.
I am kinda getting back into hunting. Im actually allergic to some preservatives. I cant eat meat (except fish) and some prepackaged fruits and vegetables. Β

This is a really neat chart. I love the way the meat is painted. I'd love to hunt someday but I have yet to take any safety courses.

I would want to hunt too some day but I don't have the funds for the courses.

awesome art work! Personally, I don't have any problem with hunting, so long as you use as much of the animal possible, and try to conserve the species and not hunt it to near extinction. Β Β

It's so nice to see people aware of the GMO's and treatment of farm animals. So many people look at the nice sunny farm depicted on the package of something (not just animal products) and assume that's where the meat or ingredients came from: a nice sunny farm. It's really too bad.Β

Remains I collect for my cats I also supportΒ reasonable hunting. It's better than farming animals what usually mean very painful life to an animal. I always prefer to buy meat of an animal that lived happy, natural life. Especially, when I buy it for my cats.
Very good picture!

The brains can be used to help cure and tan the hide. We eat the backstrap of the deer and other parts and my dad uses the bones to make knife handles and the skull he paints and hangs on a wall. We are Native American.

I am unfortunately not into hunting myself. It costs quite a lot of money to get all the licences for me in my country (id lose more than 1000 dollars just for the education) :C Since you're from Canada I think you can find information on stores maybe, or on the internet? Β

Helpful, especially to me being a foreigner and now seeing all those names in Eng And you drew the meat looking so meaty
Heh, honestly, a leg on a wall looks awfulxD
Just leave enough for the natural predators (so they won't get population 'controlled' 'because of' 'putting' their prey's pupulation in danger - while this could be avoidied if it weren't for human hunters kind of stealing them their prey. They can't choose another prey, a human can.)
π: 0 β©: 1
RedbuzzarddArt In reply to VixenDra [2014-04-30 16:46:42 +0000 UTC]
however there is no such thing as "stealing their prey" in this world. Everything around us is for every creature to consume. Humans are just as much part of the whole natural ecosystem, despite that were the rulers on this planet. Yes, the human is an omnivore and has the choice to eat something else. But its like telling a bear, who are omnivores too, to go eat nuts cause meat is only for the predators. Thats not how nature works, nature is cruel and unfair. Β It is a fact that animals are food, just like plants. Everyone eats and kills each other in order to survive. I rather see us eat natural products that we gather or catch with our own effort rather than eat mutated mass produced food.Β

It sounds rather inapropiate to treat humans and animals equally in this matter... Is building a factory natural? Is it natural for a human to fly(but we do)? Does human actually act natural in general? Is it natural that 91% of the land on Earth is inhabited by humans and used for economic purposes? Also notice it's considered a tragedy if a human being is killed and you say . Humans are way different and it's definitely not compareable to "telling a bear"... We are (at least able to be) conscious of the world as a whole, the rest of animals are not. Humans also claim themselves the right to controll other populations. A sample I can give can be the chain:
1)the wolf hunts the elk - natural system, wolves kill elks and there is a balance: not too many elks, not too many wolves, just like nature 'wanted' it to be.
2)here the human comes in and hunts elks too, let's forget the reason (which is not always the one you'd like it to be)
3)there are too few elks on the area now because there are too many predators now(more than it was naturally)
4a)human starts to blame wolves by saying there are too many wolves and too less prey for them
4b) elks are considered more or less kind of endangered and so wolves are considered overpopulated
5)human kills the 'overpopulation' of wolves and stil hunts elks(which start to get 'overpopulated' at once)
it tends to be a circle of human 'controlling' the populations of both predators and prey, while could hunt/kill sth else instead, without all this nonsense.
I guess I didn't present the idea accurately here, especially while it's me trying to xD Anyway, the 1st part of my reply is more important here^^
Anyway, I'm glad you can't hunt some of these bigger animals in your country. Rabbits breed far better than deers or whatever etc. If you are so picky perhaps your reason isn't really just eating the so called natural products? BTW why won't you start your own farm where your chickens and others would run outside and eat normal stuff? Wouldn't it be better to make this yor aim instead? Both hunting and farming cost a lot, so...

Yeah intelligence and our abilities to build things may keep us apart from other animals but we are all nature's creations ( or god in case you are religious) just like any life form. Also we arent flying, but using a tool that makes us fly, which was invented by ONE human being. And you talk on how much we invade earth but our human population isnt that big as you think. The problem here is that everyone goes to big cities where it gets overcrowded, more babies get born and cause bigger demand
for food , and so you get factories. Those that hunt wild animals for food simply are people who choose a different lifestyle and want to eat natural. I agree on the most of your points and that we shouldnt overkill our wildlife. But i dont see harm in hunting for the purpose of eating. And those people are just a small group.
Also not all about humans is bad. There are a lot of people who do care about animals. Hunters also pay for wildlife management, which is the reason the wildlife in the USA are doing so much better than in Europa where they do little to management. Where I live, the Netherlands is a very bad example. Overpopulated deer in fenced enclosures without any predators which leads to many starving animals. And this they call "natural".
And yes I am actually growing my own crops in my garden right now. For chickens i dont have space sadly :c

Heh, according to the lecture on evolution I had last semester human population should go into the dying stage soon since it's already reached kind of overpopulation(it happens to dominat species when they reach some level), it had already started with some more advanced countries (which is natural here, stability=>less reproduction focus, it's vice-versa by poorer areas because they're more likely to die). Still according to some other sources the number of human population will increase by another 1mld within 25years. Actually I don't think this over 90% of land already used by humans is few...
And one can't live one on another(even a skyscraper can't bo too high), everybody needs space and their own teritory
and space for crops and inventory to eat. It's a complex issue. The issue of the quality of the meat meant for humans to eat is complex as well and there is actually no ideal possible to introduce sollution, sadly. Sth will always suffer because of our kind untill we'll die out or at least our population dicrease in number and space occupied.
My neighbours had a few chickens, I think it was an area of 5mX3m but I was little then, so I'm not shure about the actual size. they had, I think, 10 or a bit more hens + a rooser. Idk if it was enough space for the number of chickens but it didn't look crowdy actually^^ Even if you had too few for meat to eat regularly(it takes 6or8 weeks for one to grow enough to be eaten, it also shouldn't be older), you could have eggs Anyway, I don't know how your garden already looks like, so... But in my area people don't have big parcels and we live in two-family houses(one half for one family, they have separate 'teritories' including gardens and there is no direct passage between the neighbours)^^ and these neighbours had crops too, and a cherrytree reaching the roof
That's why I'm wondering...
My grandma grows some crops in our little garden too^^ And, rarely but still, we had a duck in our garden(running freely or in our little greenhouse, depended)but I can't actually remember the last time there was one. I can remember there were maybe 3 in total, so nothing spectacular. Noone can simply take care of animals here, also my family eats too much meat, especially my grandpaxD
(PS my family lives in a town, not village/countryside)

Yeah overpopulation will be a future problem. I fear more for a breakout of a virus ( think there is one going on now) or a 3rd world war. I personally am not gonna have children anyway. ( i rather have cats)
My neighbour has chickens too and i think in a big enclosed coop. But i would feel bad keeping them in a small space. I dont have a big grass patch they can walk on. So i wait with this. I have a kitchen garden with an apple tree. I got spinash and lettuce growing , almost ready for harvesting. Also got carrots, califlower, brocoli and onions growing now. And a raspberry plant. And a patch with herbs!
Im also eating less meat now. Havent had beef or pork for months now. If i do eat meat it is chicken, fish or wild caught meat bought from butchers ( hare, deer, rabbit) .

Β War is the worst way to reduce the overpopulation I can think of...
