Description A chart/graphic for my portfolio cause I really needed an example of that. This was really fun to work on.
The purpose is to tell what parts of an hunted animal is used or consumed, but also which kind of meat comes from which part of the body(in general.)

I still want to see numbers for how many animals die just WAITING to be killed. Most reporters who in the past tried to get the number were blocked by staff at slaughterhouses from looking at any of the holding yards except ones they prepared for them. I know I used to live in a city near some slaughterhouses in Texas. I witnessed first hand from driving by the holding yards that they pack the animals in so tightly that they LITERALLY walk across their backs to get around... and that's in the desert, no sign of water for miles (these were BIG holding yards). The animals could die on their feet and you'd not know till they were shuffled out cause the other cows old them standing...
the only thing that has OFFICIALLY be stated by slaughterhouses is that they don't use ANY animal that dies in the holding yards. Health wise, they cant. Any animal that dies by means OTHER then the slaughtering process is only allowed to be skinned and the rest incinerated or disposed of.
Imagine how many heads of cattle are sent to slaughter and never even get used cause of the holding process alone?! How much money and food and LIVES of the animals literally go to waste!

In the US there are laws that require all usable parts of hunted game to be either personally used or donated to someone who will use them. That way people cant just hunt for sport, they hunt for food and meat. Wildlife biologists, such as myself, also use hunting as a useful means to control populations to keep them healthy. All the money accumulated from selling game tags goes toward wildlife conservation. Its a very important system and I highly encourage hunting, when done legally of course.

Yeah I have read about that and I think US got a great system! If only Europa learned from that. Population control is also a reason I support hunting. This year before spring there was a scandal in my country where 200 deer died of starvation!!! because there were too many deer. And the goverment did still not allow hunters to take a few down...

In some states.  My old one allowed free for all, and it racked up to the little deer population we had to decline a LOT until new laws changed it: one buck or doe per hunt per week.

These days all states require a single game tag per deer so only one buck per payment. They usually dont have a lot of doe tags because they decrease the population more strongly. Its interesting how things have changed. Hopefully I can help these things in my career.

What do you use to make deer jerky? What part of the deer dies that come from?

Anything meat on the deer can be made into jerky. It's basically just smoking and drying out the meat. Of course, thinner pieces will be easier to do this than thicker cuts. And flavour can come down to personal preference (I personally think the meat from the flank is tastier for jerky).

Cool thanks! I didn't know if it was a specific part or not.

From what I have seen, jerky is basically thin strips of smoked meat , sometimes also marinaded, and it can be from any part of the body. But i think it will be mostly from the back leg or loin as there is the most meat.

The loin or roast section makes the best sections for jerky I've learned.

So long as the meat is the right thickness to where you can cut it into thin strips anything is indeed possible! I've actually tried venison sausage. Bambi was mighty tasty.

I sadly only got to try deer steak once. And its farmed deer from New Sealand..... Deer are rarely to never hunted in the Netherlands because they are protected by law... Maybe one day I will get deer meat from Germany instead. XD

Mmmmh STEAK. Bet it was tasty.

Come to America, we've got deer ERRYWHERE. We've got regulated deer seasons with restrictions on arms that accompany those seasons however. Not sure what the restrictions on hunting seasons are over there in Germany.

WellI cooked it myself for the first time. It was yummy but I think it could have been better... I try to get deer meat when im in Germany but so far no luck.. xD too bad it is 6 euro per steak the size of your hand palm... *poor student world problems*

Germany has a more healthy wildlife. Lots of red deer and roe deers ( we dont have white tailed deer in europa) and boars. Most of european hunts ive seen are being done in Germany, France, Poland or other eastern european countries. Netherlands is only pest control or regulations and some seasons for rabbit/duck/peasants/pidgeons in wintertime.

Oh wow, here, beef steak can run up to 30$ depending on how many pounds it is. It hurts. Because I love thick cut T Bone and I won't buy steak unless it's under 15$. If I was rich, I'd be eating steak morning, noon and evening.

Ah, very informative. Still I bet you'd enjoy hunting here. We've got not white tail deer, but other cervidae as well. Mule Deer, Moose, and I'm not quite sure if it counts, but we've also got mountain goat. We've got deer leaping out of our ears!
