Haha, man any time I see my parents fish using live bait it makes my stomach twist (then again, I'm quite fond of the little fish they catch to use for such purposes...they're the "pretty fish" of the lake XD but no, seriously, they are gorgeous little things). Only time I ever did such a thing was by complete accident when a bass attacked a fish I had caught, literally tearing it in half before I reeled it in. After seeing that, I'd never, ever use live bait. It's hard to suddenly become the one who decides the fate of another living creature.

I love deer, I have a lot of hunters in my family so I get deer meat, jerky, steak and burgers whenever they come in. My aunt makes awesome deer spaghetti using deer meat as meatballs.

lol Yea you would like those, I have a lot of deer out here they walk in my yard. :l I see baby ones as well lol so if you try hunting got you a good chance here, though Doe and the fawns aren't really the ones to hunt for its the bucks that are the main trophy you count by the points on their antlers Β and size of their weight and such. But I've also heard that doe meat is spicier than the bucks.Β

I have to say I did scan over some of your comments and found them very informative and for that I thank you. I also thank you for putting such insightful information out to people who may not have seen it otherwise. I grew up in a state in the US were MOST people that hunted/fished did it for their own livelihood and for tradition, and I take a lot of pride in the fact that my grandfather raised me up in such a way. Nothing was wasted, or you didn't take from the land. Looking back I see how valuable this lesson really was, so thank you very much.
As a side note, this chart is beautifully illustrated!

Thank you. I am happy I could actually inform people and make them learn something different.Β
I really hope I can get some more venison one day. Sadly they are so expensive here They ask 40 euro for piece of loin... So I gotta wait till I can afford a hunting education program >.<

This is very interesting! I love all the coloring you have here!~ I have never had deer myself, but I heard it is really good. I also hope you can hunt in the future. My Grandfather use to spend many weeks hunting until he retired from it a long, long time ago. Gotta be very patient to be a hunter, my grandfather stayed up all night in a tree during a hunting trip waiting for one to come around without scaring it away~ Β

I support hunting as well, As long as this is what the hunters do with all of the meat. Not wasting one morsel of the beautiful creature.

Someone in my family usually gets one or two each deer season, and then we have an assortment of deer food items. The jerky is good... if done correctly. xD But there's something about knowing the animal came from a good environment and had a natural life as opposed to some factory farm or something. ^^
Ooh yes rabbit is excellent, especially fried 8D

wow this is really nice. I agree with you on the farmed/modified food. and the hunting as long as it is used for food. I had to live on blm land for a short time once and there were so many carcasses rotting around that were missing the tops of their heads. or were hanging from trees. I do not support sport hunting.

RedbuzzarddArt In reply to earthwiccan [2013-09-24 00:42:10 +0000 UTC]
I am against hunting for sport as well. It is what made some animals go extinct (example is the Quagga..). Only responsible hunting and contributing to the environment. ( population/pest control or for consumption)

this is.... interesting. I'm not much to hunting myself, but I partially support bow hunting and such... if its not done for sport. I might have to show this to my brother in law some time. He bow hunts, but all he takes from the deer is a small part of the meat. Throws away the pelt, bones, antlers, everything else... kinda trying to get him to change that

RedbuzzarddArt In reply to TheWolvenEstates [2013-09-24 00:38:40 +0000 UTC]
I am also against hunting for sport. The purpose of hunting or fishing for me is to have something on the table, which is healthy. I think its much more rewarding and you will have more respect for where it comes from.
Β I have seen too much food scandals among meats in my country, like last i heard there was a ground meat company who mixed beef with rotten horse meat..:SΒ
Or did you know that meat originally becomes brown , but meat companies put in chemicals to make it look "red" :/ And the amount of water that you get in the pan when frying chicken... i could make a list about this. haha.

Things like that are part of why it's nice to have family farms around. All my eggs come from my aunt and uncle, for example. Those chickens own the whole yard. LOL Used to get meat from the local butcher too before they went out of business (need to find another, since they get the meat from mostly farmers I know and have actually met, and see their animals every day)

RedbuzzarddArt In reply to Lyrak [2013-09-26 12:10:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I also want to have chickens in my yard in the future for the eggs and consumption. And I need to find some local farmers who sell their veggies (i also plan to grow crops myself in the backyard next spring)

some places also take old, browning meat, and put it into ground beef, then they wrap it in a fresher layer of ground beef so that it will still look nice and red. Most people never notice it and will just dump the beef out and start cooking :\
It is also allowed for a certain percentage of cows in slaughterhouses to not be killed before processing. This is cause the current method to slaughter cows is actually only designed to stun them, do a "matgine of error" is allowed. Most places refuse to use more sure fire ways to reduce pain and suffering for the animals because it would cost more money. This means a certain percentage of cows are still alive as they are rung up, gutted, and throat slit. Its also KNOWN and been studied how long these cows can live through this and still be able to feel. Most go so far as being skinned, limbs chopped off, gutted, and will still eventually die only when bleed to death. All this within 15 minutes.
....yeah, I did a lot of research on this before for some school reports...
And all this wasn't "Old Practices" These studies were all preformed in the last decade as a "movement to reform the meat industry".... apparently things were a LOT worse

Yeah I have also watched lots of videos about that... It is horrible..
Also they use the stun method with shocks here and they call it " humane" ...I don't see how it is humane as there is always a possibility the animal is still aware.. not to mention the amount of stress these animals go through.
